Stages Power/cadence dropouts when using ANT+.

Hi

I'm using a Garmin Edge 1030 combined with a Stages R8000 Gen3 Power Meter.
I'm experiencing a lot of power/cadance drop outs when the Stages is connected with ANT+.

Not a big issue you will think, just connect it with BLE and it will be fixed.
Yes indeed, bluetooth does not give me dropouts but when I pause an activity and resume it. I see the power meter is still connected to the Edge 1030 but is not returning any data.
The 'fix' is to pause the ride, shut down the device (completely), start the device and resume the ride.
This is very annoying.

Is this a known problem and if so: what is the real fix for it?
Anyone experiencing the same issues?

Thanks!
  • Had reconnection issues with Ant+ as well. I did wear my AppleWatch on my left arm, which was connected to my iPhone in my right shirt pocket. Since I switch the Apple Watch to the right arm, the problem is gone. Do you have other BT devices? Did you try switching bluetooth on your phone off?
  • Same here :-(

For quite a while and with 4 different power meters, I've had a lot of drop outs. Inside outside always :-(

It sucks big time and it's annoying nothing happens.

Once I did a comparison with my F5S+ lying next to my Edge. Zero drop outs on the F5 while Edge had many...

    Come on Garmin... :-(
  • Test with Edge 1000 = no dropouts

This is ridiculous, please fix this Garmin

I have the same setup, 1030 and Stages R8000 R/L Gen3, connected via Ant+. Everything works fine for me. No drop outs whatsoever.
  • I don't know if this is useful information but my frame size is 56 cm Aluminium and I do use the original Garmin plastic mount for the Edge 1030. Are you guys using metal aftermarket mounts? It's just an idea…

Which firmware on Stages and what software version on the Edge 1030 are you using?

XL framesize and original plastic mount
  • Inside Edge is mounted on a woodstick with plastic mount. Outside on a metal KCNC XL alu mount. However my old Edge didn’t have any issues at all.

Come on Garmin... This is your flagship model...
  • Tested with a friend his 1030 on my bike = no issues (also 7.30 version).

Did a complete reset on my 1030... The problem persists.
  • Here's today ride with 3 different recordings units

    - Polar V800 (via BT)
    - Edge 1030 (ANT)
    - Fenix 5S+ (ANT)

You make of it what you want/can.... But I can tell once again a had a lot of dropouts on the Edge. The Polar is apperantly the best one... :-(
