7.20 appears to break Turn Guidance

The secondary route for Turn Guidance was calculated and you can see the list of turns and the magenta line but nothing happens beyond that.

It seems to think that you aren't moving.

The track following works.

Another rider with a 1030 on 6.30 didn't have the problem using the same route.

The route didn't quite begin where we started. I tried restarting the route many times and it had the same problem (the Turn Guidance part didn't think I was moving). The ancient 800 was able to pick up routes in the middle reliably. The Touring had similar problem starting routes in the middle (it thought you were at the start).

  • In my case restarting the route never works. When the problem occurs, I restart the navigation. Then the TBT always starts from the beginning and won't pick up the navigation at the proper location.

The navigation starts with the nearest point on the track (when it works).

The end-point being the same as the start-point is a different problem. In that case, it picks the end-point and determines that you've finished the route. This problem is old (tht 800 had it). This problem has an easy work-around.

When that happens, restarting the route further along usually works.

What you describe is exactly the problem I had. (I saw the same issue with the Touring.) It's a different problem.

If it's related to the end-point being the same as the start-point, it's a different problem than the old problem.

In the middle of the course, it shouldn't even be looking at the start and end points (so there being the same shouldn't matter).

Did you try restarting the route further along? (If you just tried restarting the route at the same place, you should expect the same result.)
  • I've been doing a 4-day tour so the routes I've been using have start/end points 100Km or more apart.

My recommendation is to place the end about 30 m short. 100 km might be farther than necessary :).

The 4th would only work if i loaded the course based on a TCX version instead of the FIT version

That's strange. The have the same data (the TCX file is converted to a FIT file before it's used anyway).

What did you use to create the files?

Hee Hee Yeah 100 Km was an extreme way of ensuring I wasn't on a circular route with the start/finish near each other

The courses were plotted with RideWithGPS and exported from there in FIT, TCX & GPX formats. I edited the name of TCX and GPX course files in a text editor to append a TCX/GPX suffix to them so that when they were loaded on to the edge they had unique names and I could differentiate between them in the course list.

I have the downloaded files and the courses on the edge available if anyone has the means and wants to analyse them.
  • I'm not using the Garmin maps. After 3 successes I had a tbt failure today. Course was a fit download from RideWithGPS. The course calculated then sat at the beginning displaying the full distance as Distance to Destination and the distance to the first course point. I stopped the course then loaded the same course but was from a RideWithGPS TCX download. This course worked absolutely fine.! Previously the courses I was using were also FIT downloads which worked without problem!

What map do you use hotdogopartysausage ?

Yep. Once the TBT fails, I've restarted the route on several different locations along the route, but always with the same result: the TBT instructions list starts with the first TBT instruction from the beginning of the route (not from where I am). And I don't get any instructions anymore. I don't remember what the Distance to Destination was, but it was at least the total length of the route (maybe added with the distance from my location to the start point). This problem only occurs on a round-trip.

For me the work-around is not to have the endpoint along (or on) the road that the route already has passed when plotting a round-trip.

I'm using a custom map of the UK created at http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/

    Interesting. So am I.
  • Many of you received an email from me and provided feedback. We are working to identify the problem. Thank you for your patience.
  • I installed upgrade to 7.22 and TBT working good.
  • chrabu - Are you using a third party map or the Garmin Cycle Map?
