7.20 appears to break Turn Guidance

The secondary route for Turn Guidance was calculated and you can see the list of turns and the magenta line but nothing happens beyond that.

It seems to think that you aren't moving.

The track following works.

Another rider with a 1030 on 6.30 didn't have the problem using the same route.

The route didn't quite begin where we started. I tried restarting the route many times and it had the same problem (the Turn Guidance part didn't think I was moving). The ancient 800 was able to pick up routes in the middle reliably. The Touring had similar problem starting routes in the middle (it thought you were at the start).

  • Normally I do "Track-Follow-Navigation" only - without turn-guidance.
But after reading this thread I was curious what my Edge 1030 behaves.
So I tried to do what dpawplyk described:

-I rode without navigation near to a stored course
-about 100 m away I stopped and loaded the course (turn-guidance on, off-course-warnings on, recalculation auto)
-after loading and calculating the Edge told me: off course (on top of screen), and I could see the course
-after starting to ride and as I reached the course, the Edge stated: course found, virtual-partner is updated
-from now on the navigation worked fine, for many kilometers, till I came home.

I deliberately deviated from the route several times to check the behaviour: no problem at all. The Edge each time gave reasonable suggestions to reach the route again.

    So absolutely no problem here!

  • I have turn by turn too - on beta 7.22 with standard Garmin maps. I just tried routing home from a small ride I just did...

    No problem...
  • Question, those with the TBT issues are you using the built-in map or a custom map (OSM mkgmap based) ? I got the issue with a custom map, which has always been working just fine before. So maybe something changed in the FW that cause mkgmap maps to have issues. Just checking

  • @Martin868: I used builtin map (North America).
  • I'm not using the Garmin maps. After 3 successes I had a tbt failure today. Course was a fit download from RideWithGPS. The course calculated then sat at the beginning displaying the full distance as Distance to Destination and the distance to the first course point. I stopped the course then loaded the same course but was from a RideWithGPS TCX download. This course worked absolutely fine.! Previously the courses I was using were also FIT downloads which worked without problem!
  • I've done some tests the last days with TBT on my Edge 1030.
I've the same issue, but only when I use the same start- and endpoint in a course. This is an issue I had also on my previous Edge (Edge 1000).
The TBT stops at some point once the course has past the half-way point (not exactly half-way, but some random distance after it).
Back then, I've reported it to Garmin, they even made a ticket for it (for the Edge 1000), but they did not fixed it.

Since then, I always make sure that the start and end of a course are separated by 100 mtrs or so. And that the route does not overlap at the beginning and end (meaning that the endpoint is not on the route from the start point).
On downloaded tracks (e.g. received from a tour ride or RideWithGps) I remove the last track points when the begin and end are the same.
With this, I never had the issue again (except for 1 specific course). I use the TBT quite often.

This is an old problem. While it's a bit annoying, there's a logic to it. There's also a way to deal with it.

The unit picks the nearest point on the route.

In any case, restarting the route should still work. It mostly worked.

    Today, the routing worked.

  • I've been doing a 4-day tour so the routes I've been using have start/end points 100Km or more apart. TBT worked straight away for 3 out of 4. The 4th would only work if i loaded the course based on a TCX version instead of the FIT version

In my case restarting the route never works. When the problem occurs, I restart the navigation. Then the TBT always starts from the beginning and won't pick up the navigation at the proper location.

By reading the mentioned issue, I thought it was a similar issue. It looked similar.
