New Public Beta 6.44 Now Available

A new Beta software for the Edge 1030 has been released. Full change log, instructions, and software for installing the beta can be found here.
  • For any issues that you encounter please fill out the form included in the download and attach it to an email to [email protected]. Please note that you may not get a response to the email unless we need more information on the issue you report.
  • Although this software is believed to be reliable, it has not yet been released for production and should be used at your own risk.
[h=4]Changes made from version 6.43 to 6.44:[/h]
  • Fixed elevation zooming issue with large courses/activities/segments (>100mi or km).
  • Fixed ANT sensor battery low notifications.
[h=2]Installation Instructions[/h]
  • Connect your Edge 1030 device to your computer using the micro-USB cable.
  • Download and unzip Edge1030_644Beta.zip and place the GUPDATE.gcd file in the \Garmin folder of your device's internal storage drive.
  • Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the Edge, and wait for the update to finish.
  • If you would like to revert to the last public release software, follow the above steps but place the GUPDATE-630.GCD file in the \Garmin folder. Rename the file to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device.
    NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • Confirmed that this also occurs on a TCX of the same route. This is the first time I have ever seen this warning and over the last 4 years I've ridden some long rides on Edge devices.

    The warning was added in Beta F/W 6.43. Have you recently installed that or 6.44
    [h=4]Changes made from version 6.30 to 6.43:[/h]
    • New Beta Feature: Galileo satellites. There is now support to use the Galileo network of satellites to assist in getting GPS fixes. With the correct GPS firmware, this option can be enabled by selecting GPS+Galileo in the GPS setting. Sync the device with Garmin Express to make sure that the new line of GPS firmware is provided to the device. Without this, the option will not be available.
    • Added support for ANT+ cycling dynamics metrics.
    • Updated smart notification categories. In the phone settings, social and other smart notification categories can be enabled. This will make the Edge show notifications from other applications depending on how they are categorized by Garmin Connect Mobile. Apps like WhatsApp, GroupMe, and Twitter may show up under social and things like e-mail, calendar, and news may show up under other. These categories are off by default and must be enabled to be seen.
    • Fixed an issue causing cadence and power data dropouts.
    • Fixed the activity profile routing mode getting reset to Road Cycling mode.
    • Fixed issues with device transfers.
    • Added prompt to indicate when a course has more course points than are supported by the device.
    • Improved Shimano STEPS response time.
    • Fixed lens mode VIRB setting.
    • Fixed issue with transmitting front and rear gear information to the Varia Vision.
    • Fixed sharp bend notifications on the Varia Vision.
    • Fixed issue with elevation back correction that could allow large dips in elevation.
    • Added the current software version to the power on page.
    • Completing a segment will now turn on the backlight.
    • Added a minimum scale to the altimeter page so that small elevation ranges are reflected properly.
    • Improved activity auto-start when the device is stationary.
    • Minor bug fixes and stability improvements.
    • Minor CIQ improvements.
  • In prior builds it still had the course point limit, but did not warn you if you had exceeded it. It just did not report any points beyond the first 200.
  • For the last two rides with V3 on b6.44, I got no pop up calibration... :-(

    This is the process:
    - I turn on my Kickr
    - I turn on DI2
    - I turn on V3 (dual)
    - I turn on the Edge and choose profile
    - I Connect to Zwift

    .... No calibration prompt... :-(
  • In prior builds it still had the course point limit, but did not warn you if you had exceeded it. It just did not report any points beyond the first 200.

    And if Garmin is pop in out the warning, what you have to do , edit the course from Strava or RWGPS?

  • You would either need to reduce the number of course points on the site you are getting the course from or except that any points beyond 200 will not get reported.

    The 1030 does have TBT generation so in that case the idea of course points is not really for navigation, but for none navigational information like feed stations, aid stations etc. The turn guidance should be coming from the TBT instructions generated by the Edge and not from course points.

    Tcx is (basically) a text/xml version of fit. Thus, it is no surprise that they show the same behavior.

    The 200 course point limitation is related to number of "turns" in the route. RWGPS writes its cuesheet items as "course points" to the exported fit/tcx file. You can modify/delete/add cuesheet items in RWGPS.

    Note that the fit/tcx file contains course points (limited to 200) and the track points (many thousands are allowed). Gpx files only contain the track points.

    The original purpose of "course points" was to provide turn instructions for Garmin units that don't use maps. They aren't necessary to the "turn guidance" (big white arrows) that the Garmin units that use maps provide. As Whetherall, pointed-out, "course points" are still useful for when using turn guidance for things like controlles.

    200 turns for 200km/125mi is quite a lot.
  • With this beta version has anyone run into issue using live track. currently under 6.44 my Live Track is abysmal. If I am lucky it will track my start and my end point if it does anything at all. Most of the time Live Track will not signal a start till I have ended my ride, yet the edge 1030 unit would have indicated a ride in progress during the ride. Another is that the RTL500 RADAR sporadically drops and reconnects during rides. Not to say that all is bad, here are somethings that are working

    1. the new GPS firmware using GPS+Galileo works great here in Europe I get a fix in seconds
    2. TBT navigation with prompts to my phone works excellent (First time in almost a year)
    3. cadence drops are at a minimal (in 90 minutes I only notice one that lasted a few seconds)
