Firmware 4.0 problems

Problems with 4.0 firmware:
- Connection with Garmin HRM Run gets lost. After re-connecting the device freezes.
- Connection with radar gets lost, however re-connects itself.
- Automatic upload after a ride is not possible anymore. I have to put the device on an USB-cable like "old days". Wifi and phone are connected, however no autmatic upload.
- First time synchronising with Garmin Express fails. Second time works.

EDIT: Seems I've driven 99,7 km/hour max speed this evening!! Wow! Never driven that fast on the flat........
So another fail in the firmware. Or I've to contact Sky or Sunweb tomorrow for a contract ;)

Very very very disappointing........
Got myself rather expensive device, which becomes worse every firmware update.....
With a rather expensive power pack that is not working with the device at all.

:mad::mad:

Tomorrow I will try my hrm-run. It connected fine after some fiddling but didn't take it out for a ride.

I must say that i was very sceptical about all the bug reports but after 3 days i gave up about trying to make it work with my iPhone 7 plus. It wil initiate connection and work fine and then forget everything after turning off the Edge 1030. Can't be bothered by reinitiating every time the connection (my fenix5 works just fine).

Syncing by WiFi works now but was a nightmare to set up. Somehow the Edge refuses to identify the wifinetworks correct. I was once lucky and now it works.

Very happy with it while riding but it's that buggy with external connections that I'm praying it keeps working.

I'm on fw 4.0. Garmin might think about calling this beta software instead of ready for customers.
  • So far quite happy with the device. The upload problem seems to be introduced with v. 4.00. Before, it worked fine.

I was rather happy also, however since the 4.0 update it seems to get some issues.
  • Odd, I use the unit with the sensors from the bundle and I did not experience issues during the 3 rides that I did, auto-upload and syncing is working seamlessly (connected to S6 edge+ and wifi).

The things that bother me so far are the broken automobile routing with latest maps (Garmin notified already), disappearing saved locations (after firmware 4.0) and the general stability of the software with 2 mtk_stp_btm related crashes since upgrading to 4.0 (no improvement since 3.9, well known issue).

The unit can work reliably for days and then crashes when you least expect it.

Seems like the 4.0 firmware solved the Remote issues, however it created a HRM-Run issue.
Now I have a Edge 1030 with issues (connection of the HRM-Run and freezes during a ride and a useless Power Pack) and a Gramin Fenix 5x which is not able to update the Europe 4.0 maps.
Seems like solving one problem, they create another problem...........

All I am saying is Garmin, stop releasing sh.t that does not work. V3 pedals is a stuff up, now v4 on 1030 drops connectivity like crazy. Maybe stick to vechile gps and leave the cycling stuff to the pro's
  • I would have to agree with all the negative sentiment surrounding what are clearly very poor software issues and QA currently coming from the Garmin team. Its time for that Product Manager, Head of Development and QA team to take their team out for some beers and say "We can do better!" All hands on deck guys, because its getting worse, not better!

    I'm currently struggling with;
    - Errors with Garmin Connect 6.4 "There was an error syncing with Garmin Connect."
    - Today the device had the wrong date set recording my result -1 day behind.
    - HRM loss of data.
    - Drop out of recording all data type until 22 minutes into the ride??? Weird.

Today I've tried a complete system reset and installed 4.11. That doesn't seem to have done much other than Garmin Express trying to reinstall 4.0. This then drove a further reset after I'd gone to the effort of redoing all my sensors etc. Ugh.

    I've owned 500, 510, 520, 820 and 1030. Whats going wrong chaps? The 1030 is going backwards.
  • My 1030 has locked up on two long rides with 4.00 recently. One a 52 mile stage for the Tour of Hermann and then again yesterday on the 75 mile Vino Fondo during a timed climb. Both times I had to execute a hard reboot while riding. In the former I ended up with a straight line on the ride report. For the latter I got the same, plus I lost a Strava segment so I'm unable to compare my effort with prior years for the event.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised. It took Garmin a good 18-24 months before the 1000 was reasonably stable. We're not even a year in yet on the 1030.
  • I have observations about Edge 1030 (f 4.00-4.11). Yesterday when I was on a MTB ride (profile "Góral") with sensors (Garmin):
    - speed,
    - cadence,
    - remote control,
    - pulse,
    - varia radar.
There were no problems. Edge sometimes slowed down. But overall, everything was OK.

Today when I was on a bicycle on a road bike ("SZOSA") with sensors (Garmin):
    - speed,
    - remote control,
    - pulse,
    - varia radar,
    - Di2 (6870)
    - Vector 3.

After a few minutes of activity, it was turned off. After restarting everything was OK.

    Best Regards
  • Firmware 4.0 is an absolute disaster! There have been gremlins in all of the firmware updates (that's a different discussion for another day), but from 3.9 to 4.0 has turned my 1030 into a paperweight! I've been on 2 rides since updating and both rides my 1030 freezes along the way. It usually begins with the HR metric, then power, then cadence... each field freezes and nothing works. I have to end my ride (save) and then reboot. I've tried to reboot without saving hoping the unit would recognize that I was mid-ride, but nope - had to end ride and reboot. This is now the 2nd time in as many days that saving then rebooting mid-ride happens often if I want to make the fields/metrics functionally work. WHAT IS GOING ON GARMIN??? How is it possible to release firmware that makes your products worse??? I'm now attempting to revert back to v 3.9 since that was at least stable enough to have a ride without the need to reboot. Please tell the CEO that bring your child to work day does not actually mean for the child to write programs and firmware!
