Firmware 4.0 problems

My Edge 1030 fubared doing the update from 3.90 to 4.00.

Contacted Garmin and wow what a horrible customer service experience. I have had trouble with my 1030 from the moment I unboxed it. My wife also has a Edge 1030 and hers has not had any issues.

After this horrible customer service I will never again buy another Garmin bicycle product. The guy was condescending as all get out, He did not even want to hear what my issues were or what I had done. I guess they just read form a script in a book. But he would say to do something I would complete the item he wanted done and say so and we would sit in total silence and I would have to say are you still there then he would acknowledge me and tell me to do something else and this would repeat.

You could really tell the guy hates his job.

My 1030 keeps having issues syncing and failing to complete updates. So he wanted me to not use WIFI and instead use a computer hooked directly to the internet, well I don't have a computer that I can hook up wired to the internet without having to move a computer into my kitchen as that is where the phone line is located.

I have good wifi in my house with strong signal. But he kept telling well if I sent you a replacement 1030 its just going to do the same thing and he pretty much placed all the blame on my internet hook up.

Funny how my wife's 1030 has no issues over our computers wifi so that pretty much eliminates my internet being the problem.

After 49 minutes of this condescending you know what I had enough of him and said thanks for the non help and hung up as it was clear Garmin was not going to replace my Edge 1030 that has given me problems from day number one.

So as it is I have a Edge 1030 that works but has issues just like so many others only Garmin must be taking one hell of bath on all these defective Edge 1030's because this guy sure as heck was not going to authorize a replacement unit for mine.

I am beyond pissed with Garmin and have gone from being a very satisfied customer over the years to a customer who has no more use for Garmin products all because of piss poor customer service.

By the way I did move a computer into my kitchen and hooked it up via cat5 cable and did everything this guy had me do before and the Edge 1030 still did all the same things and had all the same issues so it damn sure was not my wifi internet hook up. It was a total pain in the rear end moving that computer into the kitchen.

I am done with Garmin bicycle products.

I have observations about Edge 1030 (f 4.00-4.11). Yesterday when I was on a MTB ride (profile "Góral") with sensors (Garmin):
- speed,
- cadence,
- remote control,
- pulse,
- varia radar.
There were no problems. Edge sometimes slowed down. But overall, everything was OK.

Today when I was on a bicycle on a road bike ("SZOSA") with sensors (Garmin):
- speed,
- remote control,
- pulse,
- varia radar,
- Di2 (6870)
- Vector 3.

After a few minutes of activity, it was turned off. After restarting everything was OK.

Yup. I've seen all of these behaviors since 4.0 as well; not to mention the awful BT connectivity. Gotta get this worked out, Garmin..., you've had years to figure out proper software development, testing and release and yet you still fail regularly.

It's embarrassing, and that's being kind.

Followup to my 4.0 firmware DISASTER! I've downgraded from 4.0 to firmware v 3.80 and my problems have vanished! Back to a working 1030 that doesn't freeze up or shut down at Strava Segments (see the other forum for that one). Since Garmin can't fix the problem, for now, I recommend trying a rollback to an earlier version. Who knows when Garmin can get their act together???!?!

Guys, 4.0 is officially a POS. You guys broke Bluetooth, you broke consistent Ant+ connectivity for HRM and P1, and you broke WiFi connectivity for upload.

Whoever is responsible for this release should be FIRED! After all the challenges with early versions of the Edge1000, this is completely UNACCEPTABLE.

Forget “new” functionality, fix this stuff ASAP!

Same here, I've never had big problems but with version 4 all came out (no automatic synchronization with Connect, shutdown during the ride, disconnection of all sensors during the ride, ecc...) :mad:

Today i noticed several issues. Crash detection goes off at most road junctions when i stop-Not a new story. My stages power meter gets dropped a few times,but the worst crime i noticed was it seems my unit is working on gps rather than wheel sensor for auto pause! Go under trees and my speed drops, get out of trees and speed shoots up! Also the auto pause is slow to start/stop the ride.Text/phone call alerts dont work. Wasnt like this on pre V4 FW. I have my wheel size manual added and im running a speed/cadence sensor. Not today but recently my heart rate readings had issues too. Ready to use Strava iphone app as it works better!
