Can't Update Maps on 1030 or 1000

Maps download, but after it says "Building maps" the update quits and says "There was an error installing the update." The Edge 1030 has 8.79 GB free on the internal card and 28.67 GB free on the SD. The Edge 1000 has 1.06 GB free on internal storage.

I wish there was a way to manually download the file and just copy to the Garmin rather than deal with Garmin Express.
  • I had the same problem and it was resolved by closing Garmin BaseCamp

I had the same issue on Saturday. Luckily my MacBook Air hadn't been updated and was running Garmin Connect 6.1. When it asked for an upgrade it installed 6.3. My iMac runs 6.4 and that has a Garmin connection error. The map update installed fine with 6.3.
  • My godness Garmin...!

Got my replaced unit yesterday (halo) and wanted to update the maps (via GE)....

    I get an error - can't update to 2018.10... :-(

I purchased and downloaded the EU maps from Garmin for my 1030 yesterday. The download and install said successful but the 1030 gives "Cannot unlock maps". I am not sure my 1030 will work properly. I had installed a new MicroSD for the EU maps and had them loaded there. The first time failed. I then had to reload the original maps that came on the 1030.

I entered a ticket with support. They are closed on weekends … just great since I am headed to Spain on Monday with a screwed up 1030. It takes many hours to download via GE and it's not my network issue .,, GE/Garmin is just S L O W …..

Maybe Garmin will reimburse me for my trip ? NOT!!! Can't wait to hear what they have to say about this issue.

Here, you can build your own maps (Routable Bicyle (Openfietsmap Lite)) and copy it to the 1030 using USB. Just provide a name for the map, e.g. spain.img. After copying, the card will show up on your lists of maps. Disable the Garmin map, enable your new map and you're ready to go.

    1) Set your unit into mass storage mode (connect it with a computer via USB), or take out the card and copy the file with a cardreader onto it (see 2).
    2) copy the GMAPSUPP.IMG file to the folder GARMIN (or create this folder if not available) with your operating system (you do not need Mapsource or any other dedicated software for this step).
    3) unmount the USB-Device from your computer (eject in the filemanager)
  • I have 1030 APAC ver 6.30.0.0 and garmin express ver 6.9.1.0, after update the latest software can not update all maps. I have followed the previous info, img file none only srt file.

    Please help...
  • here's a novel idea how about Garmin stepping up and fixing the issue we all pay enough for the devices they should work correctly

  • here's a novel idea how about Garmin stepping up

Here's a novel idea, how about reporting the issue to Garmin Support via the official support channel? And how about not cross-posting the identical comment in 3 different threads.

  • it should work from the get go these issues shouldn't be happening to so many people did a google search and it looks like its rampant. But I will take your suggestion and see what happens thanks

  • sorry stupid question where can I find the official support channel?
