Power meter battery low warnings ... spurious...

got a warning so put a new battery ... next ride I get the same battery low warning, at the end of the ride I check the stages using the stages app and it shows a full battery.

I assume this this is a bug in the 1030?

The battery maybe good, it could be a poor or lose connection in the battery door that causes a brief short that results in a one time low battery message being sent. The battery then recovers and reports…

See earlier in this thread. Is your power meter paired over BLE to the 530? If so this would explain why you are getting a difference between the 2 head units. I would recommend pairing over ANT if you…

Updated the stages firmware and now I see less information and no battery status. Still get the low battery warning flash screen though.

Ill upload a fit file.

I looked at the file and your Stages power meter is connected to the 1030 over BLE not ANT+. This could explain the difference you are seeing in the behavior of the 820 and 1030.

ANT+ and BLE use different methods to communicate the battery information.

ANT+ uses a battery status code whose value is determined by the sensor vendor. The vendor sends one of the following codes. [TABLE="border: 0, cellpadding: 0, cellspacing: 0"]

If the Edge receives code 4 or 5 then it will give a battery warning.

The consortium that developed the BLE specification went a different route. The BLE implementation passes a battery percent value. There is no definition at what percentage the battery is considered low. That is left to the head unit manufacture to determine. I'm guessing what happened is that the Edge received one message from the power meter where the % dropped below the threshold that it considers the battery to be low and hence the message.

Unless there is a particular reason you wish to use the BLE pairing with the Edge I would suggest disabling the current BLE pairing on the Edge and doing a new search and adding it again over ANT+.

Thanks, I just paired it in the normal way, how do you specify which protocol the pairing uses?

Disable the PM in the sensor menu then pair it again it should pick up the Ant+

I have found that when you pair a dual sensor the Bluetooth will come up first and usually have a name for the sensor, there is a second option to pair another sensor this will be the Ant+ and has a numeric value in the name field.

If I switch to ant I do not get the spurious warnings. I also see the old calibration figures.

How why why do you choose ant over BT or vice versa?
