Power meter battery low warnings ... spurious...

got a warning so put a new battery ... next ride I get the same battery low warning, at the end of the ride I check the stages using the stages app and it shows a full battery.

I assume this this is a bug in the 1030?
  • Unlikely it is an Edge bug as it just reports the battery status transmitted by the sensor.

was never an issue with the 820 and I’m sure the battery is fine.

  • I have had my Stages report low battery to my Edge 820, it seemed to be random and not very often.
  • The battery maybe good, it could be a poor or lose connection in the battery door that causes a brief short that results in a one time low battery message being sent. The battery then recovers and reports good the rest of the time.
  • ...little bit off topic, but:
when performing a calibration of my stages via Edge 1030 - v3.90 the calibration process seems to be ok, but the shown figure always is 0.
If using my Edge 1000 or the iOS-stages app, there is a value of about 930 shown.

No problems with “low battery“ warnings here!
  • Might also be down to poor quality batteries, changes in temperature, or moisture ingress which happened to me after a wet ride in the Pyrenees where batteries were reporting extremely short lives but were OK voltage wise when I checked. FWIW I've noticed better battery life with the latest Stages firmware so worth checking you're up to date.

Same when calibrating my Garmin Vectors, but when I dug down to the sensors and calibrated the PM, I get the correct values as my other Edges.

    Im also seeing that ...

the low low battery notifications are definitely a bug in the 1030, with the 820 no such issues.
  • Are you riding with both the 820 and 1030 paired with Stages at the same time and over the same protocol?

No; I'm not riding round with two garmins on my bars; but I can report the issue only happens with the 1030 ... if I use the 820 I don't get the notifications.

The battery is brand new and reports as 100% via the stages app.
