USB mass storage mode working only seconds

When I plug in the 1030 (Windows 10) it sees the mass storage mode only briefly. A second, no more. I tried different USB cables, different USB ports. Tried a factory reset.

Other garmin devices (Oregon 750 and fenix 5 for example) work fine.

The device shows that it is in mass storage mode, and the drives appear in windows - but trying to access them results in an endless loop, no contents is being shown.

Is this a known issue? Or do I need to get it replaced?

Error code 0x800070651 does not appear to be that uncommon.

Tried both solutions above. No effect, disk itself is fine.

Got my Edge 1030 on Saturday and had exactly the same problems on my main W10 PC – sits there for 5 minutes or so with the main unit and SD card shown as USB drives and then all is ok and it connects with Garmin Express and I can see the drives properly. Tried reinstalling drivers etc but the problem remained.
Then went and plugged Edge 1030 into my (new) W10 netbook and it worked perfectly straight away.
Confused – don’t know whether to blame the Garmin or the PC…

The mass storage mode is weird. I sometimes unplug and plug my unit in multiple times. Didn't know about this "lap reset" trick actually. Will try that in the future.

Have the same issue with edge 520 plus. Even more it is not connected as mass storage at all ("few minutes later" does not work for me)
