strobe light question

Hi All,

Is there a way to turn strobe led light on/off during an activity (walk/run) ?

I walk/run 3 hrs daily and I start at 4am which is in complete darkness so I use the strobe, but the last 90 minutes is in day light so I need to turn it off whilst in activity

can it be done ?

Thanks!

  • I set my Running activity to use the strobe after sunset. I went out for a run in the early morning and it started right up. About a half hour after sunrise it automatically stopped strobing as I would have expected.

  • Thanks, out of the 4 hrs I run I need the strobe for maybe 45 to 60 minutes and not from the beginning of the run. A shortcut on one of the buttons is the ideal way but unfortunately strobe is not listed in the shortcuts menu.

  • When I set it up from the watch, I went to Watch Settings -> Activities -> Run -> Run Settings. Then in the list of run settings there was a menu called Flashlight Strobe which was about 3/4 of the way down. It allows you to control the various strobe features for the activity including when to enable it, type of strobe, speed, and color. Hope this helps. I think the process is similar if you do it from your phone through Garmin Connect.

  • I haven't tried an evening run with the new watch yet. But my suspicion is that it would stay off at the start of a run until you reach about a half hour or so before sunset and then turn on automatically... based on how it worked for me prior to sunrise in the morning, where it was the reverse (starting on and then auto-off a little bit after sunrise.).

  • I am having issues too...here is my email to Garmin Team but I never got a response.

Garmin Team, I request an enhancement for the Forerunner 970 that allows the Strobe Control settings, accessed via the Controls Menu, to override any active strobe functions initiated by an activity.

Problem Description: Currently, when the strobe function is activated within an activity (e.g., during a run or ride), users cannot quickly modify or disable the strobe using the standard quick-access methods. To change the strobe output or mode, users must navigate through multiple layers of activity settings. The standard quick-disable feature (typically a double-tap of the light button) does not function when the strobe is running via an activity.

Proposed Solution and Justification: I propose that the Strobe Control in the Controls Menu be given priority access, allowing users to override the active strobe function regardless of whether an activity is running. This enhancement is crucial for safety and usability:

Immediate Disablement: Users must be able to quickly disable the strobe in scenarios requiring immediate concealment or discretion.

Rapid Mode Adjustment: Users need to quickly adjust strobe modes to adapt to changing traffic or environmental conditions without navigating complex menus.

Implementing this override would significantly enhance the safety and functionality of the Forerunner 970 for users who rely on the strobe feature during their activities.
