965 wifi sync causing crash/restart

For the 2nd time in about a month my 965 (latest fw) has just crashed/restarted after initiating a wifi sync. WiFi sync works fine for a few weeks, or more, then fails with the blue triangle and restart of my 965. After successful restart and fresh sync there's a few hours of data missing in the Connect app despite data such as body battery showing as uninterrupted for the day on my watch...

TLDR; 965/WiFi/router seem happy with each other until they're not and a manual sync trips up the watch. Has anyone else experienced anything like this and have a fix, preferably not a reset?

  • When i assign wi-fi sync to another button it does not crash. Also when disconnected from power outlet is does not crash. It’s clearly a bug. Maybe a unusual setup but it should not crash.

  • Except it does crash for me when disconnected from power (and no shortcut). This is what I was reporting - maybe a related or a different bug in the WiFi sync code.
A crash happens for me if WiFi connectivity has been enabled for a number of days, when I've initiated a sync a few times a day over a couple of weeks, or so, until it fails & crashes in a similar manner to yours...

  • Do you have a video you can upload on your next reply showing it crashes without being plugged in? So far, I cannot reproduce a crash while plugged in or using a shortcut or while not plugged in and going through the glances on software version 25.04.

  • Not easily, Garmin-Hannah - it doesn't do it 'on command'. I'd have to video each attempted sync until it fails, but I'll give it a go - it just may take a few weeks....

For clarity, I don't go through glances. I enable WiFI by holding the Up button, then select Connectivity > Wi-Fi > Status On,  and leave it on. (auto upload is off) When I want to sync, I follow the instructions in the manual:

    1. Hold LIGHT to view the controls menu
    2. Select Sync

This process works fine for a number of days, but after 2 weeks or so, it'll start syncing as it has successfully previously, but then fail/crash. (I don't leave bluetooth enabled, as I get better battery life using WiFI for sync)

I'll let it run for a number of days & see if I can get a vid of it crashing. (no promises)
