All of a sudden recovery time is very long

At the begin of this week, my recovery has gone up. Normally it would be 18-48 hours.
Now I can hardly do a hard session, without the recovery going crazy. What normally would give me 24-36 additional hours (max) has given me 51.

Even a slow run (2.5 km at 7:10 min/km) gave be 24 hours Stuck out tongue That would normally not give me more than 1 hour or 2.

  • I thought my recovery times had got significantly longer in the last week or so. I also got a recovery time of 51 hours from a Base run which was suggested by the watch, when I would have expected 24-36.

My vo2 max has also been falling in the last week according to the watch, despite training several times in my normal pattern. This could be correct, but surprised me a bit too.

Note: my watch is a 955, updated to s/w v23.20.

  • My VO2max dropped with 23.20 but after a VO2max workout, came back up.  Not sure if it is the beta or my condition. recovery time for me seems normal.

  • Interesting!  I thought it was just me???  My recovery times are reaching up to 70 hours!  Although, I sleep 7-8 hours per night the sleep mode indicates I need 9 hours+(sometimes) to refresh.  My VO2 has dropped from my usual 48 to 44 in the last 3 months.  My training and recovery routine hasn't changed.  I'm wondering if there is a software glitch??  Any thoughts?

  • Same on my 955 since 23.20 update.  Easy run, 70 hours recovery.  I quit looking at recovery and readiness because both are telling me to never workout again.

  • Can you please take a look at your heart rate zones (and time in zones) and max heart rate and see if they have changed or are not what would be expected?

  • Hi Maeve, hr zones look good.  My last run did push my HR into higher zone.  What I see in stats is REM getting zero score multiple days this week causing sleep to list as poor with no recovery despite 7 hours of sleep.  That appears to be causing my recovery to climb.

  • Sleep score and recovery metrics look more normal today.  I guess I will keep an eye on it, maybe I am coming down with a cold or something.  Thanks for your time.

  • I see this thread is a few months old - but i am training for the Deadly Dozen fitness race at end of month - and doing some high intensity - in between surfing when i can. Suddnly a 30 minute skipping session is giving me 96 hours recovery!   A few weeks ago i had a flue typ virus and did not train but recovered got back into the training and the metrics seemed very consistent with the recovery that i felt and my speed and strength ( deadly Dozen - is a Hyrox type event) - then a few days ago i did a skipping session instead of my normal quite brutal work out for that day - and bang 96 hours revcovery - what i have notocwwd though is that i am over what Garmin thinks is my target times for zone 4 and zone 5 training and low on zone 2- can i re set the targets - or has garmin changed the alogorythm?

  • I’ve also noticed what seems very long recovery for a short and very steady runs. Previous entries in this thread mentioned the 23.20 update, but the problem appears to persist as I’ve installed 24.12.
