Triangle of death - anything I can do?

Hi!

While scrolling through widgets watch resets.
This happens sometimes and I didn't mind, until this morning.
Now my 965 is in triangle of death mode, restarting all the time, just triangle is shown and then off.
Takes an hour now already.
Holding power/light button to shut it down doesn't work.
Connecting to PC doesn't change anything too, device not detected.

Is there anything I can do?

Best

Oliver

  • My support call...Just now

Thank you. We have gotten some other reports of this overnight, and our engineers our currently working on a permanent fix. Something you can try that has had various levels of success is factory resetting your watch, just be sure to unplug the watch then follow these steps:

    • Power watch off by pressing and holding top left button for 20 seconds.

    • Press and hold the two buttons on the right side of the watch.

    • Press and hold top left button until you see triangle or hear a beep.

    • After the first beep release the upper right button.

    • After the second beep release the lower right.

It then went to a cogwheel and restored like a fresh device

Ok, that is a good sign, it means it is resetting. After the reset, I would avoid trying to start an activity for the time being until you get an email saying this has been resolved. That seems to be the cause of the issue.

  • Thank you. I have called garmin UK and they have advised that an email will be sent out when this is fixed. Please can you update us all in the UK ASAP.

: Me - busy doing something with a cog wheel now

  • jk it did not work hahaha

  • as soon as i tried to install my backup it crashed again! So I shall have top set up anew. I had to do my run with strava app on my phone... Really this is not good enough!

  • my 965 got stuck on the blue triangle this morning also when I tried to start an outdoor run.  The only way I could get it to respond was to perform the factory reset, which then ended with the cog wheel and setup like a new watch, but now I'm not able to connect it to Garmin Connect on my phone and all my history and settings are lost!  This is ridiculous!  My watch was on firmware 20.xx, so it's not only limited to the latest version of the firmware AND I had my watch auto-update disable for this exact reason.  After the reset, I tried plugging the watch to the computer via Garmin Express to see if that would restore my settings and history, but I couldn't figure out how, now all of a sudden the watch has updated to firmware 21.22 which I did NOT want!  WHAT THE *** GARMIN!!  How do I get my settings and history back?  How do I get the watch to connect to my phone again?  This may be the one that finally pushes me to jump the fence over to COROS!

  • I have the same issue on iPhone and Garmin FR955, so its not just you ;=)
