Confirmed: nothing is done about the annoying voice navigation alerts

just confirmed. Garmin isn’t going to fix the annoying turn by turn audio alerts.

see the last post of https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/running-multisport/f/forerunner-965/374071/voice-prompts-for-turns-during-course-navigation---turn-off/1845999#1845999

To stop people complaining, that topic is closed.

Good work, Garmin!

  • Thats really sad. It was an unnecessary way they did it. If they wanted to add navigation voice prompts , it should have been added to the voice prompts menu. Its implementation is also incomplete as it doesn't do voice prompts for the off course alerts , just the turns , so if it was a planned implementation it is badly done.  And its not just the FR devices either as people comment in the Fenix Forums also.

The mind boggles at what is so difficult to add Navigation as an option under voice prompts where it should be! I reported this "bug" under the initial 19.xx beta

  • You describe perfectly how garmin works. It's driven by marketing.

Marketing only cares that the featurelist of garmin watches is longer than that of other watches.

And finance wants to reduce costs, so developers aren't allowed to work on bug fixing or making watches more usable.

Unless the bug is out in the open, like the varia radar f.u. As soon as gadget bloggers started to write about it, garmin sarted to look into it (https://the5krunner.com/2024/09/26/garmin-releases-varia-update-with-known-safety-bug-to-forerunner-965/)

  • Very sad and frustrating indeed. There's another similar thread over on the Enduro forum:

    https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/enduro-2/365995/turn-off-voice-prompts-from-phone-when-navigating

In that case, it seems to be acknowledged as an issue which Garmin are supposedly looking to fix. But the last official word was months ago so I have my doubts. Disappointed

  • This can't be for real...

I bought a 965 two months ago specifically for the navigation. I was initially excited to use it, but when I tried it out, there was this voice that cut off the music I was listening to... Not only was it disturbing, it was inaudible.

I had deactivated the audio prompt but it hadn't made any difference. I discovered that it was a bug. Therefore, I just waited for the fix, so that I could fully enjoy navigation.

And today I find out that Garmin will NOT fix it? Unbelievable.

Some time ago, I used to be such a fan of Garmin products. That's sad. I go from disappointment to disappointment. At least now I wouldn't feel bad about going to a competitor.

  • Wow, that certainly makes me regret my FR965 purchase at least a little bit. I just don't understand why Garmin insists on continually making choices that degrade the customer experience.

The first competitor to get maps with labels gets my next purchase.
