My VO2max suggested activity ended up being counted as an Anaerobic Capacity activity

My suggested activity for today was a VO2 Max run, 8 repeats of 2 minutes at 162 beats per minute with one minute rest in between (though I must admit, I did extend a couple of those rests). I was able to reach at least the bottom of the desired heart rate range, 157 BPM, for six of the repeats and got close to it on the other two. The watch gave me a 67% Execution Score, which was at the bottom of the Good range. When the activity ended, the primary benefit was cited as Anaerobic Capacity. I'm hoping someone can provide some insight or suggestions as to the logic of this switch.

  • Is you max heart rate entered correctly

  • if you have rested more time that whats stipulated its normal that changed, do as the training plan shows, if not it will vary the results for sure

  • I'm using the watch-detected maximum heart rate, which is 168, as my maximum heart rate.

  • With a 2 mn interval at almost maximum effort (you said you were barely reaching the target HR), your workout could easily result in an anaerobic capacity workout as you use HR as a target.

You just ended up accelerating hard to get your HR up there. It is pretty easy to move over to anaerobic benefit with such a design using HR as a target.

For VO2 Max training, you would have to be maintaining a maximum steady pace for at least 2mn. I would recommend intervals of 3 to 4mn with equal recovery time. I also recommend to use pace as a target.

If targets (HR or pace) are not realistic, you have a biased VO2 / Pace / Duration model on the watch
