Still getting zero elevation with the 20.29 update.

Happened with some prior betas, but then it went away and starting providing proper elevation data.

But- now, I’ve done multiple runs and other activities with 20.29, restarted and such- and the elevation data is completely flat.  (Uh, when it shouldn’t be)

  • Still getting zero elevation with the 20.31 update

  • With 20.29 I have 0 floors climbed after I walked up the usual hill that in the past was 4 floors. BTW it even includes an actual floor worth if steps... I thought that the bug in the new FW is that it no longer detects the floors when I don't start an activity, but today it counted 0 even in an activity.

  • All,

Thank you for sharing. We are looking into this.

Please answer the following so we can further investigate:

    1. Did elevation start showing flatlines only after 20.XX?
    2. Are your floors being tracked throughout the day?
    3. Do any workarounds fix it, like adding elevation as a data field during an activity or stopping/resuming the activity?
    4. Which activity profiles are affected?
    5. May I have permission to reach you via email, if necessary?
    6. May we have permission to view your Connect account so we can see activity examples?
  • 1. Yes

    2. Almost no. Not as much as in earlier FW fir the same paths.

    3. No, Haven't found any workaround that fixes it

    4. Walk, Run and also MoveIQ (in other words when I don't manually start an activity)

    5. Yes

    6. Yes

    1. Did elevation start showing flatlines only after 20.XX?  First time I noticed it was with 20.15.  it's intermittent.
    2. Are your floors being tracked throughout the day?  yes.
    3. Do any workarounds fix it, like adding elevation as a data field during an activity or stopping/resuming the activity?
      1. those don't seem to.
    4. Which activity profiles are affected?
      1. running. walking.  maybe others- not sure.
    5. May I have permission to reach you via email, if necessary?
      1. sure
    6. May we have permission to view your Connect account so we can see activity examples?
      1. sure
    1. Yes
    2. Yes
    3. I've always had a data field. Using the "Resume later" fixes problem.
    4. E-Mountain Bike only.
    5. Of course, but my English is terrible.
    6. Yes
    1. Yes
    2. No
    3. Noticed it wasn't working at all with HRM strap but is inconsistent without it.  Also, if logging multiple activities on same run (warm up, race, cool down) if it works for the first activity, it doesn't for the following ones.
    4. Running
    5. Yes.
    6. Yes.
  • I also have this  problem.

    1. Elevation started to flatline with version 20.26. The bug went away with 20.29 and became back with 20.31 which I currently have.
    2. Floors are tracked normally when any workout isn't active.
    3. If I start workout and then open the elevation widget (long pressing LIGHT button and then choosing Elevation) and then return to workout screen it fixes the problem everytime. The elevation graph flatlines as long as I don't open the Elevation widget. Just this evening I forgot to do this and the elevation flatlined during the whole workout. If at any point of workout I open the Elevation widget, from that point onwards the elevation tracking start to work. Everything before that point is just flatline.
    4. I have noticed this with Walking.
    5. Yes
    6. Yes
  • Yesterday I went for a run and in the first 20 minutes there is no elevation data. After that it is measured. I remember that I stopped there and paused my run as I had a phone call. after I continued the elevation was counted.

    1. Did elevation start showing flatlines only after 20.XX? Thi is the forst ti I experience the issue. The watch is on 20.32. With this SW I only had this run and a hike activity where the elevation had no issues.
    2. Are your floors being tracked throughout the day? Look like, yes.

    3. Do any workarounds fix it, like adding elevation as a data field during an activity or stopping/resuming the activity? For me pausing and resuming helped this time but I remember that I have paused this same activity before it was fixed and that time it didn't help.

    4. Which activity profiles are affected? Running so far.

    5. May I have permission to reach you via email, if necessary? Yes.

    6. May we have permission to view your Connect account so we can see activity examples? Yes.
  • Just got an email form a garmin agent with the following ridiculous "recommendation":

It can be worth trying the following steps
    1. Enabling an elevation Data Field in the activity profile
    2. Starting initial activity, stopping and discarding the activity. Then start a new activity.
    3. Power cycling the device before starting an activity

Well, I think it would've been easier to recommend me any of the competitors' watches... I don't understand how can this be approved by a supervisor! This is a disgrace!
