Audio Prompts broken since 19.18

Since upgrading to 19.18, audio prompts while on a run seem completely broken.

I usually have lap alerts on, along with 5min alerts on average pace, heart rate and power.  That combination has worked fine up to now (despite ongoing glitches with Audible that Garmin and Amazon have not bothered to even look at for several years now).'

Upgrading to 19.18 though and now none of that works.  The settings in the app are fine, and it's not the connection (sometimes the watch/phone get unconnected but rebooting both fixes the issue - been that way since my 245) - indeed when setting out I get an audio prompt of "Time started" (which is new?) and even the first 5 min set of alerts, but then nothing.... no lap alerts, no further 5min alerts.  It sems clear that something in 19.18 has broken this pretty important functionality for me.

Is anyone else suffering this issue and/or have a fix/workaround?

  • I have found an issue  related to Navigation when I get alerts for something that wasn't there before and one cannot stop it without stopping the functionality itself. I reported this through the beta cycle of 19.xx

I see someone else also picked it up.

So it seems something is wonky (to put it mildly) with the Audio Prompts

  • Thank you for sharing. May I have permission to reach you via email so I can make sure this is reported?

  • @Garmin-Sierra  Of course.  Feel free to get in touch

  • The message on my Forerunner 965 has also been broken since the update to version 19.18.

There is no announcement about lap times, pace...

    The settings are activated correctly.

  • Yes I have a forerunner 645 and no audio prompts since the update. I rang support who stated yes they had realised there was a problem  and hopefully new update will fix it SOON. I run  very slowly and try to keep my heart rate below a certain level as I try to get fitter. This is an important thing for me and I'm seriously thinking about changing from garmin if it is not fixed soon

  • Talking to support we've narrowed down the issue (on my case at least) to some sort of clash with Audible.  Alerts seem to work fine with no other audio apps running and with Spotify, it is just with Audible that the issue starts. If you're running audio apps well worth making support aware of which ones of you contact them about similar problems.  Equally I guess if you are encountering issues with no audio apps running worth explicitly mentioning that as well.

  • I have the same or similar issue on my Forerunner 255. My alerts come through for the first 5 km's or so, from then nothing. No lap times, no pace. But sometimes the messages seem to catch up, like this morning I got a dozen of messages, I think these were "hanging" somewhere from yesterday and maybe even before.

Usually I have music plying on my Deezer app, haven't tried without that yet

  • Sometimes I have this with my 965. I have audio alerts set up to announce my HR every minute. The phone is connected to the watch and a BT headphone to the phone. I play music on the phone. The annoucements are sometimes delayed and they catch up in a burst.

  • All who are experiencing this, please answer the following:

    1. Are your headphones paired directly to your watch or phone?
    2. Are you using a music app on your phone at the same time? If so, which one?
    3. May we have permission to reach you via email?
    4. May we, if necessary, have permission to view your Connect account?
