Structured swim workouts randomly skips rest

On my last two structured swim workouts, the FR965 skipped a few rest intervals of a structured workout.  I'd look at the watch after pressing the lap button to end the work interval, and it has already started the timer for the next work interval.  Completely skipping the rest.

  1. At the end of the last lap of a work interval, press lap button to end the work interval.
  2. EXPECTED: Watch transitions to the next rest interval and counts down to the start of the next work interval.
  3. ACTUAL: Watch shows next work interval, and timer has already started.

These are the exact same workouts that I've been using for years.  First with the FR945 and now FR965.  I've never seen this issue before.  In Garmin Connect you can see the rest intervals with 0 time.  It doesn't happen on the same rest interval.

I'm on software version 8.23.  Countdown start is OFF and Auto rest is OFF.

    It looks like my last workout was also working with regards to skipping the rest interval. Also 20.23.

    But the last rest in a repeat set was not skipped, so I get two rests, which confused me initially. Previously, the last rest in a repeat was always skipped by default and you had to add a separate rest between repeat groups.

    After the workout, I re-edited the workouts on my phone and re-downloaded it to the watch.  I'll see tomorrow if this is fixed.  Garmin added a new "skip last rest" checkbox to repeat workouts that was not there before.  I am hoping that this flag was not included in my old workouts, and that by re-editing the workouts, the flag will be included in the workout, and the watch will  skip the last rest.

    All in all, it looks like forward progress!

    As of this past Saturday, 08/17/2024, my FR955 was still having problems. It has been consistently, inconsistently, and randomly skipping since the beginning of the year or thereabouts. Note that My F7 performed the same workout the day before without a hitch.

    Are you running the beta software?  Not sure if the 955 and 965 have the same beta versions, though.

    My FR955 hasn't been on beta. Currently, its software version is 19.18.

    Garmin made a big improvement for structured workouts in the swim app.  I recommend trying it out.
