Structured swim workouts randomly skips rest

On my last two structured swim workouts, the FR965 skipped a few rest intervals of a structured workout.  I'd look at the watch after pressing the lap button to end the work interval, and it has already started the timer for the next work interval.  Completely skipping the rest.

  1. At the end of the last lap of a work interval, press lap button to end the work interval.
  2. EXPECTED: Watch transitions to the next rest interval and counts down to the start of the next work interval.
  3. ACTUAL: Watch shows next work interval, and timer has already started.

These are the exact same workouts that I've been using for years.  First with the FR945 and now FR965.  I've never seen this issue before.  In Garmin Connect you can see the rest intervals with 0 time.  It doesn't happen on the same rest interval.

I'm on software version 8.23.  Countdown start is OFF and Auto rest is OFF.

  • I thought is was just me double hitting the button even know I didn't feel like I was. I had the same issue with my 955 and now my 965.

  • Garmin just released a new Beta version 20.15 for the FR965.  This includes a revamp of the swim app.  I'll be trying this next week.  Hopefully it resolves some of the issues we've been experiencing.

I recommend to try out this version if you can.

  • The new sim app in 20.15 looks great but definitely seems buggy.  I'll submit a bug report on the beta forum.  I still got a skipped rest, but also missed two intervals.

The rest screen is a major improvement.  I really hope they can sort out the issues.

  • I have the same problem. Like most of you I thought that I was double pressing at the beggining but I was not. My watch(FR965) is skipping at least 3-4 rests on every swimming workout and this is annoying.

I will contact Product Support, it might be fixed quicker if all of us contact seperately.

  • +1 here. It's pretty brutal to finish a swim interval and the watch tell me to turn around and do another interval with no rest. I thought I was mistakenly double pressing the lap button until I paid more attention and literally witnessed it doing it in front of my eyes. This needs to be fixed, it's a huge disruptor when you're working out. Smartwatches are a game changer with swimming.

  • All, yes its an issue, but we all need to report it, so they prioritize fixing. It took me several messages to convince support it was an issue, and not me having a lack of understanding of "skipping last rest in a repeat". I actually had to replicate it at my house, and luckily got it to skip while I was recording video. I sent it to them, but Garmin support kept punting me along until finally they sent me a replacement watch. I moved over to Coros Pace 3...

  • I see there are some swimming related things on the latest beta , hopefully that helps!

  • Unfortunately the issue still exists for me in the beta.  I have submitted a beta test bug report.

The new swim app is a big improvement on the current one, especially the rest page.  I really hope they can sort out this annoyance.

  • Me too, exact same problem

  • I did a structured workout today (with over 45 steps) and it didn't miss any steps, I'm on 20.23.  I've been a Garmin user for 20 years and I thought something was wrong with the lap button but it only did it on structured workouts.  It seems to work fine now.
