Map update stuck in download queue

With my Forerunner 965 I think I am hitting the Map Manager Issue reported in this closed thread: https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/running-multisport/f/forerunner-955-series/311253/maps-manager-bug#pifragment-1279=4

My Forerunner 965 runs 17.26 and I have installed TopoActive Europe via Garmin Express which installed version 2023.10 and reported all Map are up to date. After the Install the Watch reports 16.5 GB storage left. According to https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=LR6HR5Xul6A9zoxySC5KM9 2023.10 is the current version of the Map however the Map Manager on the Watch says there is an update available and when I try to install it it remains in queued state.

Answering the questions requested by Garmin support in the closed thread linked above:

1: Does your watch's Map Manager show "Update Available", but Garmin Express indicates that the maps are already up to date?

Yes

2: Does your watch's Map Manager show that an update is "Queued", but the update fails?

No

3: Are you experiencing something different? If so, please explain:

The watch's Map Manager shows that an update in "Queued" and is stuck there.

4: If necessary, may we have permission to reach out via email?

Yes

5: If necessary, may we have access to your Connect account?

Yes

6: In which country are you located?

Germany

    1. What I have done on occasion is to delete the .img files from the device and then start clean so to say .
  • I have something similar or the same, not sure: every time I connect the watch to the charger it connects to wifi and starts to download maps. Never finishes. Garmin support couldn't help either. They told me to remove and then reinstall the maps from Garmin Express, which I did. The only difference is that now when I connect the charger then the map download starts from 96%, but it never increases. Totally stuck.

Annoyingly when I disconnect the charger I have to cancel map syncing manually if I want to use the watch (and not just look at the download counter forever)

  • Try remove the map .img files form the device drive itself (by connecting to laptop and interrogating the drive) and start from scratch with no maps. I have done this a few times when I've had issues. Not that one should have to ....

  • Having the same issue. Connect to WiFi, open map manager and add a topo map to download (hk, 20mb), and....nothing. 'queued' is all it shows, pressing it I can remove it from the queue that's it. All while on a charger. What's the point of this if you can't work it?

  • Thank you for answering my questions,

Anyone else experiencing this, may I have permission to email you as well? Please reply with permission so I can add you to a report that we are investigating.

  • I have the same issue while charging the watch. It always starts a Topo download, that always get stuck at around 23 percent. Sometimes the watch goes all black when I disconnect the charging cable. Did anyone have a solution for this problem? I have had it for maybe 7-8 months now.

  • no solution. I "work now part time as qa for Garmin" and sending them videos, files, on demand every once in a while when they ask for something in email...

  • I am also experiencing this. Please email, you have permission

  • These are steps I got from Garmin Support:

    1. Remove pair from GCM and phone's BT menu.
    2. Reset the device's settings.
    3. After reset, plug in to computer and check for the 'Update Manager' subfolder.  If it is there, delete it.
    4. Then, remove from computer and pair to GCM but do not set up Wi-Fi.
    5. Use normally and make sure nothing happens with maps.
    6. After 24 hours, charge the device making sure Wi-Fi is NOT set up yet.
    7. After another 24 hours, set up Wi-Fi network and monitor normally.
    8. If download screen returns, notify us.

I haven't tried them yet, but if someone does lease let us know the results.
