18.20/19.18 HR bug still here

  1. Hi, despite the information received from @Garminsierra that the bug was 'probably' fixed in 18.20, I have to say that today  I had a run after a couple of weeks of recovery after a flu and I was running with +30sec X minute slower than my normal pace and HR was around 140 BPM. All of a sudden, out of the blue, without changing my pace despite the very relaxed feeling, HR jumped at 185bpm, that's also exceeding my max HR possible for my age and my training level. I had to deactivate WHR and switching it on immediately after to get it working properly. After further 10 minutes same situation. Now, the thing is, i could also accept this and just don't care about that obvious bug, if not that all statistics are very much dependant by HR. I'm referring to vo2max, performance condition, rest hours, endurance score, suggested daily training etc etc...well Garmin, I'm sure you know that's probably the BIGGEST bug ever since here the whole reliability of the watch is under discussion. this is a sport Watch, probably the best out there, but if HR is not working properly, well, we're far from being an entry level watch. Furthermore, a friend of mine was running with a 69€ watch and HR was just perfect, consistent, stable and reliable.
  • Interesting idea to indirectly push Garmin to take this problem seriously, but I do not see it happening since there is no money in reviewing what was already reviewed. That is why there are only reviews of new things, no matter how significant or insignificant they are.

Doesn't hurt to keep asking them, especially if they review a new watch and their WHR review shows no regression.

  • I will do the test with the Verity Sense on the wrist, this isn't a big deal.

The 10 (or more) minutes lag is absolutely repeatable here with the FR965.

  • true, and reviewers/influencers also have an income model...
furthermore, content moderation in this forum really is an issue.

if we want an open discussion about OHR (or anything) we should move to reddit but preferrably to a new reddit as you never know who moderates the current ones. If I look at https://www.reddit.com/r/GarminWatches/ there are some posts on heart rate issues but the dicussions don't go deep...

  • Feels like a pretty open discussion in here to me? We're all basically saying, there is a problem, something broke around version 17, lots of graphs if you look in the other forums for the other watches, etc...I don't see any moderation to sweep what anyone is saying under the rug. I'd keep posting here, you need Garmin hear your voice. That this is essential to these watches and that they need to address this regression at the very least.

  • I miss one of my posts/replies which was not insulting or so. Today I got a mail notification of someone's post which was quite blunt and appeared to be under review after "View Online" was clicked, so yes we are relatively open here. I think though that this helps but a support ticket helps even more since it will land on someone's desk and not every post here will be followed up by support. I had good expierence with that (and am still waiting for the solution like so many of us)

  • I just saw that, post was taken down from person who posted about delay issues even when using a chest strap. That was definitely a little aggressive/unproductive, but you do understand the frustration. I'm about to pull the trigger on a new Garmin watch, so if I see issues or NOT, I'll continue to be in here, as Garmin needs to continue to up their game in WHR and Sleep anyway, as well as consolidate their watches and software. They are already behind many, many competitors (in WHR and Sleep) who are coming for their lunch in the load and recovery areas. Luckily they have GPS nailed! WHR and Sleep are crucial for their platform, especially with the improvements Whoop and Fitbit seem to be making with simple algorithm updates. It's in everyone's best interest Garmin survives.

  • Yeah it was quite rude. A nice move would be an open source Core OS and closed source AI & other algorithms, Gimmicks, Activities etc than at least community can also help out. What competitive advantage is there in raw signal inpterpretation and recording?
Still besides posting here, also make support tickets in my opinion.
Hope they will resolve this soon. The relative pause on the betas page gives me some hope that focus shifts from new features to fixing this issue now.

  • I don't know, think that's because there was just this "big" release to many of the watches for really new features for differentiation from competitors. Seems to me they are on a 2-3 month development cycle, and they are trying to consolidate their software releases across watches. So less watches, less "OS" versions, and ability to have more apps and smartwatch features. But if they don't focus on other area's of training and recovery like WHR and Sleep, more and more people are going to rely on something like Whoop. See tons of athletes using this now, from basketball to mountain biking. They were already only average at this even with the latest sensors (WHR and Sleep), now with this regression seems like they've gone backwards 5 years on WHR.

  • We are still monitoring this topic, but it is true that it is best if those who have not yet reached out to Product Support do so. That way you can be internally and officially added to our report tracking this.

If anyone has issues getting ahold of someone from their region, please let me know. If you reach out via email, please allow a few days to receive a response.

    Thank you!

  • I'm about to pull the trigger on a new watch, and I also have a degree in engineering (I'm analytical) and worked in software engineering. If I notice it's worse than say my current 24/7 wearable Fitbit Luxe for basical things like walks, hikes, stretching, PT type workouts, I'll be in touch so the teams can grab data.
