Skiing: double counting runs

First day skiing with the new 965 yesterday. During the day it counted each run twice. The running tally while recording the session was twice the number of runs actually skied. Now that the activity uploaded, Connect is reporting the correct number of runs but the exported data to Strava shows double. Looking at the GPS and elevation data you can clearly count the correct number of runs... @Garmin please take a look at these issues.

  • Hi I just updated to the beta so I haven't been able to test yet, but just curious, is the descent/elevation loss accurate with the update? That's the most frustrating part for me because it's mainly how I track how much I got out of the ski day. While I'm tracking it seems fine and last time for example it said 2mi/10k descent, but when I stopped tracking and saved it added over 5k to the descent (to ~15k) on Connect and Strava. I could tell from the elevation chart that this was completely inaccurate and it added the 5k out of nowhere.

  • I still use software version 17.26. And after the latest Garmin Connect, all stats look good in the Connect app so far. But on the watch all runs are still counted twice and shows an inflated descent stat as well. And this is also what Strava reports (latest software version). Additionally, in Connect I noticed, that if you go to "edit activity" the number of runs are wrong as well. All this is very disappointing as the problem persists and my stats for this season are completely useless. At least the total distance no longer include the lift rides.

Do you have an idea, when the problem will be fixed?

  • Does anyone know if this has been fixed in the latest firmware release? Thanks.

  • Since the public firmware update is just the latest beta, and I was skiing with beta firmware for quite a while, I expect most glaring problems to be solved, namely:

    - Both the watch and Connect show the correct number of runs.

    - Both the watch and Connect show the correct total time, Connect additionally breaks it down into lift/run/idle.

    - Both the watch and Connect show the same max speed and similar average speed which looks correct (lifts excluded).

    - The watch and Connect show a slightly different descent values (interestingly, ascent is identical), but they are close and seem correct.

    There are still problems though:

    - The watch is showing the distance including the lifts, Connect shows the total runs distance.

    - The watch says "ascent" on the main activity summary screen, but it really means "descent" :-)

    - I seriously doubt the calorie count. For mere 1.5h moving time, 33 km distance, 5000m descent and <20 mins above 60% maxHR it says 1200 calories (900 active). I have a hard time getting anywhere near this with high intensity interval training on my bike :-D

    - Strava and other tools might show wrong data.

    So it's a mixed bag :-)

  • Has this been corrected or still

waiting for a release to fix?

  • Is anyone able to test the latest version (v19.18) of the firmware using the ski/snowboard activity? Thanks.

  • Ski season is closed here... Let's talk in November

  • Perhaps Nick_NZ is in the southern hemisphere…maybe even New Zealand which means their season is just getting started.

And here in New England, Killington is still open to ski or ride Slight smile
