Skiing: double counting runs

First day skiing with the new 965 yesterday. During the day it counted each run twice. The running tally while recording the session was twice the number of runs actually skied. Now that the activity uploaded, Connect is reporting the correct number of runs but the exported data to Strava shows double. Looking at the GPS and elevation data you can clearly count the correct number of runs... @Garmin please take a look at these issues.

  • Hi together,
just got my activity fixed. You have to activate something like "Height correct" on the web-page (sorry, only have the German version).
The checkbox is just under the icon of the forerunner

  • I used my 965 for the first time skiing yesterday and I am seriously impressed how absolutely everything is broken:

    - Runs count is doubled. It's corrected when uploaded to Garmin Connect (it's correct on the website), but still wrong on my watch when I access the activity through History.

    - Distance is inflated by ~75%. I guess this is because lifts are included in distance computation. It's happening both on the watch and in GC. However, the total value for the sum in the Runs tab (in GC) is correct - it only includes descents from my spot-checking and comparing totals to another recording using Venu 2 Plus.

    - Descent is inflated by ~50%. Now this is weird, because I have no clue how lifts could be incorporated in descents and why only at half of the value. But again comparing the "Runs" tab totals and my Venu 2 Plus recording matches, while the stats in GC and my Forerunner 965 history are nonsensical.

    - Run time seems to include queuing to the lift for the next run. How can this possibly be useful?

    - Calories are nonsensical, or at least seem inflated like 8x compared to another recording using Venu 2 Plus which looks more realistic to me. Maybe it thinks I was ski touring instead of using the lifts ;-)

OK, the map looks nice and correct distinguishing lifts and descents, I like that. But the rest of the key metrics is utter nonsense. Did anyone ever test this?

, please file an internal ticket for this. The skiing season in the northern hemisphere is starting and I am surprised there are no YouTube tech reviewers making fun of this yet.

  • Agree on everything. But agree with garmin Sierra too that such a total failure for the ski activity has almost no  echo out there.

    • What is really disappointing me is that it worked fine before the 17.24 update. I was lucky enough to start the season early to be able to at least track a few sessions on my 965 that looked good...
  • It's not working in my case; what is happening when activating the Height correction? I still have almost 3x for the distance and probably 5x the total runs.

  • Son use my old 920xt and everything work perfect:O

965 makes no many mistakes. Counts lifts..

     Distance is doubled somehow... 920>965!!!

  • Just to add to this (I am still using the 955 solar but the issue is exactly the same):

    1. During skiing, the watch always starts and ends the run correctly (using the Auto Run and Auto Pause Features with a certain threshold speed). Then, as the lift is going up, it often starts a new run which is stopped again after a couple of seconds. Still, the distance and elevation are correct throughout the day.
    2. When finishing the activity, the “false” runs from ascending with the lift appear to be corrected, so that the run details tab looks perfectly correct (I ended up with 24 runs, during the activity I had >40 due to wrong ones produced when lifting). Also, the km and elevation are exactly correct.
    3. However, for whatever non-sensical reason, the overall statistics are manually corrected and are entirely wrong  (eg then also causing my Strava update to be completely wrong). In my case, the kilometers were more than doubled, the elevation was exactly doubled.

this really is super frustrating. The skiing app last year was heavily biased already. I don’t understand how every single free or <10 Euro iPhone App is able to track my skiing exactly the right way while my >500 euro sports watch is unable to do so. Extremely unsatisfactory…

  • All,

We have a fix coming soon for the watch counting ski runs twice, but showing correctly in Garmin Connect. We also recently published an FAQ that may answer questions regarding how the activity is tracked: Skiing or Snowboarding with a Garmin Watch.

If you are having any other issues with ski activity tracking, please reach out to Garmin Product Support.

  • when it is expeted to go live?

    thx
