Blending data from Edge 1030 & Forerunner 965

I have a Edge 1030 that i use for cycling. I just brought a Forerunner 965 for everything else. Yesterday i did a 3 hr ride and took the 965 off because i had the edge and heart rate strap. After completing the ride and uploading it and putting the 965 back on, i noticed that no Heart rate data filled in the gap from when i took the 965 off. Should the data from the Edge 1030 fill in the gaps when the 965 is not on? If it doesn't, then doesn't that make other stats such as average HR, max Hr, Body battery, Stress etc all become not valid due to me doing another stressful session. Can the edge data be blended into the 965 data and is so how?

  • Did you record the ride with your Edge or with your 965?

Was the HR strap paired to your Edge or your 965? If you pair a strap to your 965 and you record the activity with your 965, then it will take precedence over the wrist HR if you're wearing it.

If you recorded the activity with both devices, then you can use https://www.fitfiletools.com to merge the two activities, but that won't affect any of the training metrics calculated on the watch.

But based on what you're saying it kinda sounds like:

    - you recorded with the Edge

    - you were broadcasting HR from the 965 to Edge?

    - you had the strap paired with the Edge

If that's the case, the solution would probably be stop broadcasting HR when you take off the 965. Or to not broadcast HR in the first place, since you have a chest strap.

  • Thanks for responding Flow. No i wasn't wearing the FR965 at all. I don't want to actually wear a watch while riding, i only want to use the Edge 1030 for my rides. I thought that because the Edge 1030 had recorded everything, that it would have synced and filled in the missing HR period that i took the FR965 off. Is it possible to use that Filfiletools to add my data from my Edge to Garmin connect to fill in the missing HR info?

  • My questions are:

    1) were you broadcasting HR from 965 to Edge? (it seems the answer has to be yes, otherwise how did you get HR while you were wearing the 965)

If so, you should stop broadcasting HR when you take off your 965.

    2) Did you pair the HR strap with the Edge?

If not, you should do so.

    3) Did you record the ride on both the Edge and 965?

If the answer is yes, you can use fitfiletools to combine the two activities, but it won't affect your training metrics.

TL;DR if you want to only use your Edge and your HR strap, pair the HR strap with your Edge and do not pair your 965 with your Edge. If you still want to pair your 965 with your edge, do not broadcast HR when you are not wearing your 965 or when you would prefer to use the HR strap instead.

  • Hi Flowstate.

    * I didn't wear my 965 at all when doing the 3hr bike ride. I only recorded the ride on the Edge 1030 with my HR strap. So all the data from the ride is there, HR, klms etc.

    * Because i wasn't wearing the 965 at all. There's a 3hr gap with heart rate over that period on the 965 and Gamin Connect. That's where i want to be able to get the 3hr HR data that recorded on my Edge to show up on my 965 and or just to fill the gap in Garmin Connect. Then showing me the whole day's worth of HR.

    * So just to clarify when i ride i'll only be using the Edge 1030 paired with a HR strap. And the 965 will be left at home.

The end result i'd like that the Edge data will merge with what the 965 data is and then complete the HR recording across the whole day.

  • Oh I see, you want your HR from the Edge activity to sync to the all-day HR in Garmin Connect and/or your 965. Sorry for being slow haha.

Garmin has a couple of features which facilitate syncing training stats between devices:

    - Unified Training Status (supported by 965 but not Edge 1030)

    - Physio TrueUp (less advanced version of the above, supported by Edge 1030)

Based on what I'm reading in those articles and the forums, I don't think all-day HR is synced by either of those features. You could try enabling Physio TrueUp on your Edge nonetheless. (At least whatever HR-based training stats which can be synced will be synced.)

According to this forum post, there doesn't seem to be a fix for this problem tho :/

Honestly, I don't find the all-day HR from activities to be that useful anyway. The resolution is limited (about 1 point per 2 minutes), and the peaks usually aren't captured.

  • Firstly thank you so much for all your help.

So i just checked and my Edge 1030 plus has Physio trueup enabled but isn't compatible by the looks of it with Unified training. I'm not extremely computer literate so i'm not sure what my options here are. I can see my Forerunner 965 is Primary Wearable and Primary Training Device. So i'm not sure what to actually do next to get the result that i'm after. FYI, i can look at my day yesterday at the HR chart and it shows the day but where i did the 3 hr bike ride, it shows the pic of a bike and green line but no heart rate info above it.

  • No worries!

I don't think there's anything that can be done on your end - Garmin has the HR data from your Edge activity but chooses not to show in it in the all-day HR view. Hopefully Physio Trueup will at least sync the relevant HR-based training metrics between devices, such as training load, training status, and VO2 Max.

You can ask Garmin to implement this feature by submitting an idea here:
