Forerunner 955 HRM not working

The HRM monitor on my 955 has died again for no apparent reason.  Wondering if there is anything else I can try, what I've done so far:

  • tried turning it off and back on again
  • performing a factory reset (turning the watch off then turning it on again with two buttons pressed until beep, then release one of the buttons which I think is what sorted it last time)
  • ensuring the software is up to date

Anyone got any ideas?

I really don't understand how this can happen so often, one of the most important functions of this watch is the HRM allowing me to track my heart rate whilst I'm out running.  I know I can get a separate HRM which is possibly more accurate but for the price of the watch I don't think I should have to.  The one thing that I do find odd (not sure if it is related) is that when I try to turn on Wi-Fi sync for the watch I am told the battery is too low even though it is fully charged - I'm wondering if the fact that the watch seems to think it has no charge is also stopping the HRM from running.

  • I had/have the same intermittent issue too. It has been extremely frustrating. Garmin 955 non solar for me.

    For me , it all started with an update to 21.22. 

    I managed to fix it (posted it in another thread). The issue came back after the update to 22.22. I have also managed to fix it by going to settings and pressing the top left hand light button 8 times to reinstall the update. 

    I am extremely upset with how everything started only after a gimped update to 21.22, I'm not the only one based on what others are writing on these forums. Spoke to support and the only recourse is to replace the unit. I'm based in Singapore and my watch is out of warranty,  Ive been quoted sgd$275 for a refurbished set. I hear of folks in the usa having their sets replaced for free even if the warranty is over. This entire exercise has been incredibly frustrating for me. 

  • Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately it didn't work, even had the computer apply the 22.24 update and still no success.  I guess I'll try contacting Garmin support tomorrow and see if they can suggest anything else.

    What does the screen show? A random frozen number or -- ?

    If you go to settings, wifi, whats the sensor hub version?

    Just trying to figure out if it is the same issue I have....

  • Yes, I have got an idea. The idea is that you chill out and not break your head about it. Garmin needs to fix it asap and long term improve their software quality assurance, as such failures are unacceptable business critical bugs.

    The other day I was thinking how insane is the amount of time I invested trying to solve a Garmin issue.

    But anyways I think from time to time we should all wine online to Garmin notice it .... but def no waste too much time. 

  • Its insane how much frustration this has brought us, but we didn't get these products for free ; we all paid a pretty penny for our watches.
