Yet another watch stuck in boot loop

I was charging my watch this morning. As I disconnected the charger, the watch reset and is now stuck in the dreaded boot loop. I've tried restarting, doing the master reset (it works, I hear the two beeps), but it's still stuck on the boot loop.

I guess there's not much else to try. Any other magical step I could try?

I've already sent an email to support, but the watch is likely not in warranty anymore (bought 2nd hand), so I have low hopes.

Thanks!

edit: I've managed to get it going by doing the factory reset properly. Follow enkaytee's instructions and it seems to work.

edit2: once you've reset, do not go back into a RUN activity or you'll likely get stuck in the boot loop again. Wait for Garmin to update the firmware or somehow revert back to an older version (is this possible?)

Last edit: this appears to be a global issue on multiple watches, 255/265/955/965 both on beta AND stable FW. Garmin is aware and hopefully working on a fix. If you do not use GPS, it shouldn't go in the bootloop... GL everyone.

  • Have you removed the device from your Garmin Express app & also Forgot the network from your phones Bluetooth settings? It didn't work for me until I did both of those things

  • Same happens to mine Epix pro gen 2. Are we being notified on how to resolve this? Seems difficult since my laptop is not recognizing the watch to start off with

  • Yeah Indeed. So now get a new one?

  • I have set up Garmin express on another laptop (windows one). Have deleted from phones Bluetooth settings and after all these activities my phone doesn't see my watch.
The only way is get it connected is by wire to my laptop(windows). Cannot connect to Mac (Garmin Express crashes during synchronising). Reinstall it two times and nothing...

  • I have three options in the connectivity menu but i can't find this one: "System -> About -> scroll few pages you do not see ANT/BLE/BT: xx.xx (in my case I have 28.27)"

  • I have tried all possibilities, without success. What else can I do?

    What I have tried:
    1. soft reset (15s power on)

    2. hard reset (power, start/stop+back -> beep, release start, beep, release down, release power). I can see the “gear wheel” and the green bar runs through. The clock then restarts in the boot loop

    3. Hold powetr and switch off 15s. Hold Start and connect to the PC (Windows). Garmin connect sees the watch. However, it is not displayed in Explorer. Therefore I cannot delete the cpe.bin

    4. contacted customer support. Due to the mass of problems, I do not expect a quick response.

Do any of you have any solutions?

  • try to do this via Open MTP.
just don't delete all files from the folder as I did.

  • Hi, I fixled my Epix Pro (Gen 2) following the 3rd option yesterday evening. Be more persistent with the Start button. I managed to remove the CPE.bin file using Ubuntu workstation (Windows should be fine also). All data is kept on the watch afterwards.

To remind you, this is UNOFFICIAL way of resolving the boot loop situation.

  • I only find open mtp for Mac, not for windows

  • If you choose to go via the factory reset route it also automatically downloads the latest update. If you want to stay on your original FW version, choose don't install. Turn off the auto update setting. Connect your watch to a computer and delete gupdate.gsp in the Garmin folder.
