Yet another watch stuck in boot loop

I was charging my watch this morning. As I disconnected the charger, the watch reset and is now stuck in the dreaded boot loop. I've tried restarting, doing the master reset (it works, I hear the two beeps), but it's still stuck on the boot loop.

I guess there's not much else to try. Any other magical step I could try?

I've already sent an email to support, but the watch is likely not in warranty anymore (bought 2nd hand), so I have low hopes.

Thanks!

edit: I've managed to get it going by doing the factory reset properly. Follow enkaytee's instructions and it seems to work.

edit2: once you've reset, do not go back into a RUN activity or you'll likely get stuck in the boot loop again. Wait for Garmin to update the firmware or somehow revert back to an older version (is this possible?)

Last edit: this appears to be a global issue on multiple watches, 255/265/955/965 both on beta AND stable FW. Garmin is aware and hopefully working on a fix. If you do not use GPS, it shouldn't go in the bootloop... GL everyone.

  • Didn't the same thing happened a couple of years ago??? I think yes. It seems that if they took some actions to prevent from happening again, it looks like being ineffective. The proper validation of the ephemeris file does not seem to be in place.

    • It is fixed refer to dc rainmaker page as well and try the fourth option first
  • If we need to do fix4 it is not fixed. It should be fixed by Garmin.

  • Well, tell me how Garmin can remotely delete two files from your watch when it is in boot loop?

Option #4 is - let me say - polite ask from Garmin we are sorry, can you help us help you and delete those two files?

If you do not understand instructions then please do Master Reset and restore everything from the Cloud as described in option #3

    I refer to DCRainmaker article.

In the nutshell this is the same info (except #4) which Garmin has published here:

My Garmin Device Will Not Boot Past the Start Up Screen | Garmin Customer Support

  • I have deleted three files from that folder and now I don't have Bluetooth)))
    Bloody ***!

  • Are you sure about that?

For test, can you open HR Glance and start Broadcast your HR.

At the same time install and open nRF app on your phone. You should be able to see all nearby devices transmitting something over BLE. nRF app is made by microchip manufacturer Nordic Semiconductor.

If you still do not see your Watch here then you might be right something is wrong.

And last thing I have seen several comments that Apple owners has problem with reconnecting their phones to watch. Do you have Apple phone?

  • Yes, I do have an iPhone. I'll try to install this nRF app.
But in the folder that people are talking about (where i need to delite a file/files from) I had three files and IDK why but I've deleted all of them.
that's why I think I cannot link my watch to my phone. I even don't have a Bluetooth option in the watch's menu.

  • One more thing I'd like to know, is it possible to get a previous version of the software and install it on the watch?
    Any thoughts about that?

    Many thanks in advance!

  • The nRF device manager cannot see my watch, but the nRF toolbox can but cannot connect to it.
I've reinstalled Garmin Connect App on my phone and it doesn't work. I still can't connect my watch to my phone.

  • You mean when you enter main Menu -> Connectivity you do not have 3 options: Phone, Wi-Fi and Garmin Share

And if you enter System -> About -> scroll few pages you do not see ANT/BLE/BT: xx.xx (in my case I have 28.27)
