I had Garmin 245 and wrist HR was perfect!
Now I have purchased a new 955 and HR is very low. It does not increase o increases very low in hard demanding intervals.
Do I have to return the watch?

The heart rate sensor should be accurate
The heart rate sensor should be accurate
Should nok be like that. Usually the HR is a few beats lower when using the Wrist and it does not register changes as fast a a HRM.
Try tighten the strap and give it one more go before calling Garmin Support.
Also check your versions does your WHR have and sensor hub? (18.01.06 / 32.24)
It is a known bug. First 10 minutes of activity the OHR is broken. Don't expect to get it fixed. Garmin does not care.
I have both versions. I have checked the user guide and it should be a heart icon flashing. There is no such icon in my watch. The watch whr should be ready when it stops flashing. Where is the icon?
Select (and do not start) an activity and it is right in the upper half of the display right in the middle.

I have noticed exactly the same thing - the heart icon never appears on my FR955, with latest firmware 21.20.
Go into SYSTEM, ABOUT and check what version your WHR is - it should be 18.01.06 - IF it is 0.0.0.0 then your FW upgrade somehow went wrong.
Also take a look at your settings for your activity type if pulse data is on/off. As far as I remember for Trail it is off.
