I just noticed when looking at the map there's a digital inner ring that's there now? What purpose is that for?
Exactly! This is it. Try to move map a bit and circle should vanish and be replaced with small dash at the bottom of the screen.
I assume you have added Map to your Data Screens for Run Activity. The same view should be just for Map app.
With latest beta 21.18 I have an extra Compass icon, which after tap, change screen orientation…
then the map doesn't move when you are running. Garmin - please get rid of this - no one asked for it!!!
It probably won't help a great deal, but if many people go here and ask for the change to be reverted, maybe they will do that:

With latest beta 21.18 I have an extra Compass icon, which after tap, change screen orientation from birdseye view with North on the top to Perspective. First view has that full circle with range distance at top (like on your image) and second only crescent at the top. It is providing for me more information than small dash at the bottom, which is still there when you pan map a bit from current position. This is marks distance from current location.
If you touch is disabled during activity, you might not be able to use that feature. Try Walk or Hike
that is so annoying . . . . I don't want track up. I want north up. i don't want to know how far something is from me. i want to see my map so i know where to make my turns. who asked for this? at least let folks turn it off.
hey garmin - instead of doing stuff that people don't want how about listing routes by order created instead of alphabetical? your edge's do this?
I don't want track up. I want north up
I only ever use North up, otherwise I get confused easily, as a dynosaur who grew up with paper maps. These days Track up is default on so many navigation devices that most people are only used to that. My car nav system only has Track up which is silly when I plan a long drive and the thing shows the entire Netherlands upside-down.
I just realized that in this post: 21.14: undocumented changes - Community Discussion - Forerunner 955 Series - Garmin Forums there is large section about that "unification" with fenix7 UI
