Audio prompts have a chance of completely freezing android phone since 20.29

After firmware update to 20.29 during activity sometimes audio prompt will get stuck in a loop (e.g. "Turn right" repeating forever). On top of that, my phone will go into semi-frozen state - only able to access lock screen. Unlock or restart attempts are ignored, until phone restarts.


Not seeing this issue in the forums, is making me think that the issue might be somehow isolated to me?

For additional context - headphones are connected to the phone, not watch directly. Also on phone lock screen I can see "play/pause" button constantly changing state on spotify, so it just seems that the watch is constantly just replaying that prompt?

  • I did start a support request at Spotify. Their first question was to remove an reinstall the Spotify app. So I did and that did not solve anything. So I am getting back at Spotify again. I will let you know.

  • I invite you to all make a ticket at Spotify. They have no other complaints about this, they say. So maybe you can help them out.

  • This a major safety issue. It makes my phone unusable. If I were to have an accident I wouldn't be able to call for help.

    Would say it's unbelievable garmin haven't fixed  however, having been a garmin user for a while it is believable. Their software developers are useless.

    Coros Pace 3 seems to be the way forward. 

  • The issue isn't Spotify. It's garmin, came about from 20.29 and persists with 20.31.

    Garmin are negligent for putting it's customers at risk, and having not fixed.

  • IF you read back, you can tell it is a conflict between Connect App and Spotify. The watch seems not to be involved. My issue started directly after Spotify being updated. The connect app had no update. So seems to me a consequence of the SPotify Update. Why do you think FW20.29 is involved?

  • Thia doesn't seem a problem with Spotify or any other audio app on Android. Other audio services on my phone interrupt sportify without problems (Waze, Maps, etc.). Also there are many other watches suffering from this problem. 

    And a big problem being ignored by Garmin but related with this, WE CAN'T DISABLE AUDIO PROMPTS!!! And yes, this is ridiculous. 

    Installing 20.31 right now... let's see. Didn't mention anything in notes, but sometimes bugs just disapear....

  • I did a little experiment. I deleted the Spotify app (version from September), and installed a previous one (version from August) Today's run went without problems. I will try a few more times next week. Hope it lasts, because next Sunday my marathon starts Grinning. Of course it is not a final fix, but for the time being...

  • It happens on my Epix Gen 2 running 18.16, so it seems not to be related to the watch
