Audio prompts have a chance of completely freezing android phone since 20.29

After firmware update to 20.29 during activity sometimes audio prompt will get stuck in a loop (e.g. "Turn right" repeating forever). On top of that, my phone will go into semi-frozen state - only able to access lock screen. Unlock or restart attempts are ignored, until phone restarts.


Not seeing this issue in the forums, is making me think that the issue might be somehow isolated to me?

For additional context - headphones are connected to the phone, not watch directly. Also on phone lock screen I can see "play/pause" button constantly changing state on spotify, so it just seems that the watch is constantly just replaying that prompt?

  • Noticed this weekend. I usually don't use headphones and navigation or workouts. But this weekend on navigation... In 200 meters turn right.... Turn right...turn...turn...turn .

    Also today in workout, recovery recovery rec tec rec... Recovery...rec...rec...

    I managed to stop it by trying to pause Spotify but it's not easy and eventually it can continue.... Until next recovery....

    This is a nasty one.

    I'm on latest firmware.

    Also I tried to disable the audio prompts for navigation because I was starting a 4 hours run. But although I think I disabled it, it kept bugging me till the end. 

  • Yup, this did NOT fix it for me either.

    I actually tried the "clean reinstall" of Spotify, connect, and Strava (just in case) ... But ran this morning and still had the same issue.

    I've been coping with it by pausing my podcast just before the audio prompt plays - remembering to constantly check my distance is slightly less annoying than the bug...

  • So far the simplest temporary fix for me has been to disable phone connection on "circle" menu. No audio prompts, but there are still vibration for hr, workouts, etc. and I can still listen to spotify

  • Unfortunately, I'm also back to square one. After a few nice, glitch-free days after the clean Spotify reinstall, the problem is now back. But still, only when Spotify is involved, no other apps. Super frustrating!

  • Yeah! Pausing audio just before the prompt may be a workaround.... Because it seems to always occur on the second sentence of the prompt. So I have time to pause it, ear prompt, then play. It's a pain but at least I don't have to pick up phone and fight with widget to try to pause audio after the problem is occuring

  • I cannot confirm it is always on the second sentence. But reading all the above issues, I am starting to think we should blame Spotify, and not Garmin. Maybe we have to start a support ticket @spotify?

  • Silly question: has anyone had similar problems with using Spotify with a satnav app like Google Maps or Waze?

  • Has anyone experienced this with only music loaded to the watch and headphone paired directly to the watch only? No phone involved. 

    If so, do I have permission to access your Garmin account and contact you directly? 

  • Don't know how usefull this is but me and a friend have both had this happen to us in the Garmin Fenix 7 after the last update

  • Yes, same problem. Typical flaky Garmin.
