Daily Suggested Workout - New Wording

I have just completed a daily suggested workout  (Recovery Run) recommended as part of a training plan for an upcoming running event I have scheduled for Oct. I am currently in the build phase.

Upon looking at the suggestions for the next 6 days, I am now seeing “Bike Day” and “While training for your event, workouts for this sport are available only on base and recovery days.” This suggestion shows for the next 6 days. previously it was showing a mix of long runs / base runs / tempo etc. I do not cycle.
what does this mean? What has changed? How do I fix it so that only running related workouts ( excl. rest / cross train) are suggested?
The DSW feature has been great for me until this happened today. Really does not help me plan my activities like I have been doing up until today. Appreciate that sleep data etc are needed before each day is set, but at least had an idea of what’s in store if all went to plan.

Any others experienced this annoyance?

  • Thankfully resolved now but unsure if it was a bug or a valid suggestion; if so what does it mean, the wording isn’t clear to me. Thanks for any guidance.

  • Yes I had that (a few times) , I did a soft reset and it corrected itself.

  • I am having a similar issue, but I haven't been able to solve it via a "soft reset" (which I understand means turning the watch off, then on).  Any other suggested solutions?  Specifically, when I look for bike daily suggested workouts (indoor and outdoor), all I see is "Run Day" for each day of the week.  When I click on that message, I get a similar, "While training for your event" message.  But I do not have any scheduled events (or past events).  (I've checked my watch and Garmin connect to make sure there are no scheduled or past events.  I've also turned the workout prompts off and on, and reset the watch in between turning them off and on.)

  • I haven't been able to solve it via a "soft reset" (which I understand means turning the watch off, then on

Soft reset means press&hold LTB for about 15 sec till the watch will shut down.

  • Thanks.  I tried the press&hold and it didn't change the outcome.

  • Not in the way you have, but...

I am having active Garmin Coach Plan for Marathon. GCP has replaced DSW recently (at least on my beta 20.15 FW)

If I select Bike as activity on slow run days, I have option to "use" it as part of my training plan. But on Tempo, Threshold etc days after selecting Bike it will be just bike.

I guess you might experience some sort of bug which might come not from the watch itself but from Garmin servers.

I remember few month ago, situation reported by many users, that DSW was scheduling only base workouts for several days in the raw completely neglect fast runs. Then Garmin has officially replied that problem was on Server side. That mean to me that after each workout sync to the cloud some computation is made not on the watch.

In that case DSW might just receive messages which might have more sense for Garmin Coach Plans. I think you should report this thru Support

  • The new software update seems to have solved the problem. I updated yesterday and this morning received both running and biking suggested workouts.
