Strange Step Graph and count after upgrading to 18.23

So I just noticed this for the first time after updating to 18.23 and I haven't seen this in any previous FW builds.

The step count graph on my 955 shows a negative step count (circled in red)????

And the steps counted on the watch do not match the count represented in the Garmin Connect App.

I don't remember walking backwards???

  • I queried the negative line with support and I was informed that , if for some reason the device picks up an unrealistic number of steps (due to as an example some vigorous arm movement ) , the algorithm does a correction, hence the negative line.

Not sure about the non-matching step count.

  • Did you use a HR strap capable of step counting just before the spike (like HRM Pro)? If yes, some steps might initially be counted twice, both by the watch and the strap. Then a little later Physio Trueup / Unified training status on Garmin servers notices this and corrects the count. It might take an additional sync to get the corrected count propagated to your watch.

  • No. This was using nothing but the 955. Even still, more troubling is the mismatch between the step count on the watch and the app...
