Forerunner 955 non-solar | Battery stuck at 100% and 0%

Hello everyone!

I hope you're all doing well. I need second opinions on my situation:

New Forerunner, the first time it drained the entire battery (not intentional). I found it strange because when it reached 0%, it took another 12 hours to turn off.

I plugged it in to charge, and the watch was charging (on the computer) for a while. Suddenly, from one minute to the next, it started indicating 100%. And it has been like that ever since. However, when I restart the watch, the battery goes back to indicating 0%.

I've tried all possible solutions: soft reset, hard reset, changed the charging source, cleaned the connectors, reinstalled Garmin Express, and nothing has worked.

Similar cases I found:

Currently, I did a long charge (left it for more than 4 hours) and I'm draining the battery (put it in running mode, all GPS on, music on, always-on display on) to see if letting it discharge and charging it again will resolve the situation.

Can you tell me if this is a software or hardware bug and how to fix it?
  • Edit 1:

I discharged the entire battery, and it didn't work. When I plug it in to charge, the display shows 0%, and suddenly, from one moment to the next, it jumps to 100%.

If I keep it on, it stays stuck at 100%.

If I turn it off or attempt a soft reset to update, it goes back to 0%, and there it remains.

    It's a complicated situation.

  • It shouldn't be doing that.

I suggest you contact Garmin or your local seller for a warranty replacement.

  • Thanks for your response!

But, yeah. More and more, I think this is the outcome.

Quite frustrating, to be honest. New watch, approximately one month of use.

When it's stuck at 100%, you lose any reference to charging (yesterday it turned off during a run). And when I restart, and it shows 0%, a significant part of the watch's features stops working (O2 sensor, downloading music via Wi-Fi, etc).

Not even the battery widgets from Garmin IQ could give me a clue. They indicate the same battery level as the watch.

I thought about trying to enter test mode, but I couldn't find anything about it, and it seems wise not to risk it further. I'm going to contact my retailer and see the warranty.
