955 no swim distance detected

Hi,

yesterday I had some issues with my 955 not counting the swiming distance.

First I started the swimming app (swimming pool) and pressed start for the start of the planned training. After several laps I checked and there was no distance shown on the watch an recorded. I stoppped the watch and tried it again. But with not difference.

After that I restarted the watch and checked that the swimming distance was selected correctly to 25m. Started again the swim app, this time with no scheduled training. But the issues was still occuring. So in total I hade yesterday three swimming workouts with no distance data logged.

This is very frustrating, as there the swim training cannot be used for the control of the training plan.

Are there any points to check or which help to prevent this issue? From this forum I can see that there were some issues previously, but they would have been fixed with the latest firmware versions.

SW Version is 17.26

Where do you see the settings "Motion detection"? There is no such option in the Pool swim activity settings. I can see only "Stroke detection", but it is completely different thing. I am on fw 17.26.

I confirm that you should disable "stroke detection" in the settings.
I use a watch in a different language version. (motion<>stroke translation issue)

What about running? Is it recording cadence to eliminate issues with accelerometer...?

Can you take a video of your swimming style and turns? Normally only people with horrible swimming style and weak turns are having issues.

I can confirm, since i disable this setting, distance are now calculate. well not so good but at least i can see some distance :)

I turned off stroke detection and MoveIQ and it makes no difference. For me it has gradually got worse. It started missing a few lengths, now it misses them all.

I was going to buy a Swim 2 just for the pool. However posts on the forum for that watch report similar issues. I just bought a an Amazfit Balance so I'll see how that tracks my swimming.

I believe this is a watch issue. The first 955 I got worked fine for 9 months. The altimeter stopped working so Garmin replaced it under warranty. The one it was replaced with (8 months ago) has never worked properly for swimming. It was refurbished if that had anything to do with it. But it has never reported swim distance correctly.

I'm so annoyed with this watch that I plan to get rid of as soon as I receive my RMA refurb replacement. It was working fine for a couple of months. Then heart monitoring failed and readings were totally unreliable. Next swimming distance dropped. I have rested the thing, loaded latest software to no vail. Very disappointed with Garmin.

i just asked yesterday for a replacement to garmin support

hope the new watch will be better than this one. but if it is a firmware issue, he will be the same. Or the HR hardware is realy bad quality
