955 no swim distance detected

Hi, 

yesterday I had some issues with my 955 not counting the swiming distance. 

First I started the swimming app (swimming pool) and pressed start for the start of the planned training. After several laps I checked and there was no distance shown on the watch an recorded. I stoppped the watch and tried it again. But with not difference. 

After that I restarted the watch and checked that the swimming distance was selected correctly to 25m. Started again the swim app, this time with no scheduled training. But the issues was still occuring. So in total I hade yesterday three swimming workouts with no distance data logged. 

This is very frustrating, as there the swim training cannot be used for the control of the training plan. 

Are there any points to check or which help to prevent this issue? From this forum I can see that there were some issues previously, but they would have been fixed with the latest firmware versions. 

SW Version is 17.26

    Today I gave it another try. Charged the Watch and rebooted it. Still no distance measured. 
    even rebooted it at the Pool and tried another swim session. No change…

    This is definitiv not how the Watch should work. Very anoying….

  • Ok I'm using the 965 now but had 955 before. I'm on FW 17.26 and haven't had issues with recording no distance. I do have some stroke detection / end of lap issues but those tend largely to be due to personal stroke issues or changes during a length due to other swimmers disrupting my stroke.

    I dont use a training plan with swimming though.

    I checked my setting and I have the following if its helpful:

    Pool Size : 25yds

    Stroke Detection : On

    Countdown start : Off

    Auto Rest : On

    I also use the Drill Log feature for doing the part of my session using a kick board.

    Have you tried the following:

    1. Reset the defaults on the Pool Swim profile

    2. Soft reset the watch.

    I would start it and do two lengths and see if it is recording something.

    Not sure that any of this will help..good luck.

    Yesterday I went for another swim. Before that I rested the defaults on the pool swim profile and restarted the complete watch. But the watch did once again did not count any lap. Not a single one... 

    Even reseted the swim app and restarted the watch at the pool, but again no laps detected. 

    It is really fu**ing annoying that the watch does not count any laps. This really makes it worthless for swim workouts for me.

  • Thats interesting indeed. I suggest to contact Garmin Support via chat or call and get them to assist you. They are normally very good at assisting with issues, possibly there is a defective part in your unit.

  • I am having the same issue. It seems to have gradually got worse. Today, no recording of distance at all.

    The solution to the problem is to turn off the function: "motion detection"

  • how does the watch can give a distance, without the motion detection? 

    in outdoor swim it is using the gps, but indoor, without the motion, how does he do?

  • Select Motion detection to have your device automatically detect your swimming style when swimming in the pool.
    Motion detection is not needed to measure distance. I guess the distance is measured rather with an accelerometer. But that's a question for Garmin.

    Turning off motion detection solved my problem of measuring length on swimming pool.
