955 crashes in an endless loop after update to 16.17

Hi All

after I updated to the 16.17 Firmware my watch keeps rebooting. During startup it gets to show the watch face and the reboots over and over again.

with care you can hit the right timing to hard reset it by use of the buttons…..

after hard reset and installment of around 28 apps, I decided to power it off just to experience the same again….

after another couple  rounds of hard reset I realized I can only install around 15 apps before it enters an endless loop at power off, if less apps no problem.

could seem like a memory management problem

regards

  • Mine is doing a similar thing during an activity where I am using GPS.  The first two times it did it, it only did it once before it finally began working normally.  The third time it did it, it simply kept repeating the rebooting after about a minute into the exercise.  And after each reboot it would return same spot.  Eventually after trying several different things it began working normally again, but it definitely is having some memory issues.

  • This happened to me as well. Also had to hard reset and reinstall everything. From what I can tell, it crashes and reboots when:

    1. You are using a strenuous watchface that takes a while to draw, and

    2. You receive a popup notification (e.g. asking you to setup a music app, or asking if you want to disable SpO2 readings due to low battery)

If the notification occurs immediately upon booting the watch, then you'll get stuck in an endless reboot loop.

  • Thank you for posting,

    All,

I'm sorry to hear about this disruption. Please respond to the following so we can further investigate:

    1. May we have permission to reach out via email?

    2. May we have permission to view your Connect account?

    3. In which country are you located?

  • Yes , you can reach out by mail and May look into my Connect account. I am located in Copenhagen, Denmark

  • I have the same problem. My Garmin also doesn’t log any distance during swimming anymore. Please could you also reach out to me? You have my permission and you are allowed to view my account. I’m based in South Africa.

  • My 955 has occasional reboots since upgrading to 16.17.

They appear during activities while displaying the map. I use very detailed custom maps (from openmtbmap.org). Maybe it is some kind of watchdog issue (drawing the map could take too long).

I am in Austria, and you may e-mail me and look into my account.

  • My 955 also crashs at least one times a day. Afer rebooting the accu drops down by 50 or 60%.

    Has anyone a similar problem?

How did you all solve you problems?

    Thanks.

  • We are investigating individual reports of crashes/reboots because some cases are different. Some devices are only crashing while using 3rd party maps, some are randomly crashing outside of activities, for example. Based off of your description, I suggest reaching out to your local Product Support center directly.

  • Do you have any mail adress or chat where i can contact the support center for germany? I have already tried to contact them several times by phone.

  • You should be able to reach them from THIS link. If you scroll down, you can see the option to chat or call- just make sure it's between the hours of 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM (and M-F). According to the message at the top of the screen, it looks like you may have to wait longer than usual to have a call or chat answered. I hope you are able to get ahold of somebody soon! Please keep trying, I apologize for any delay.
