955 crashes in an endless loop after update to 16.17

Hi All

after I updated to the 16.17 Firmware my watch keeps rebooting. During startup it gets to show the watch face and the reboots over and over again.

with care you can hit the right timing to hard reset it by use of the buttons…..

after hard reset and installment of around 28 apps, I decided to power it off just to experience the same again….

after another couple  rounds of hard reset I realized I can only install around 15 apps before it enters an endless loop at power off, if less apps no problem.

could seem like a memory management problem

regards

  • I am also having a similar issue. My watch suddenly crashed when I tried to hit the lap button during a workout tonight.  And then it's been rebooting and crashing in an endless loop for the past 3 hours. I tried to do a hard reboot by pressing down the power, but the watch isn't responding to anything.

Have you tried plugging the watch into a computer (that's running Garmin Express)?

If that doesn't work, would you consider trying a master reset? You'll lose your settings and other data, but at least your watch will hopefully start to work again. Here's the procedure for 935 (hopefully it should work for 955):

    • Power off watch (press and hold Light, Yes on prompt)
    • Press and hold Start/Stop and Lap/Reset.
    • Press and hold Light (three buttons should now be pressed in)
    • After first beep, release Start/Stop.
    • After second beep, release Lap/Reset.
    • Release Light.

I once had an endless reboot issue on an even older watch, and master reset enabled me to get out of it (the key sequence was slightly different though.) The tricky part was timing it just right so I'd start the sequence when the watch turned itself on, and I'd finish before it rebooted itself.

  • I tried your master reset instructions and it worked!! Now my Garmin is up and running again. Thank you!!

  • Same here.  No distance during swims…and heart rate doesn’t work…and crashes constantly.

  • Crappy software, as usual. I keep my 955 at 15.19 and don't plan on updating.
