HR monitor issues justify a recall at this point

The HR issues on this "premium triathlons watch" have been persisting for something like a half year at this point, none of the SW releases at this point have helped to fix the problem

Considering the price we all paid for this watch I would expect Garmin to do one of three things

  1. Provide a hotfix, it is unbelievable that you have been expecting users all over the world to hangout and wait 6 months for a SW update that works
  2. Enable users to downgrade the version until you release a version without critical bugs such as this
  3. Recall the entire series and figure out the HR issues on your own dime...

Without a reliable HR monitor all the downstream features are useless. I have owned the watch for about a year and must say it is a spectacularly expensive disappointment

  • Been having issues with mine day 1. I upgraded from a 255m because the 955 solar was on sale .Big mistake hr issues same as above

  • wrist hr are always known never to be trusted. to many variables can effect it.

  • In my case in certain activities (and not always) the average hr with the WHR is about 20 bpm higher compared to using a chest strap. All the calculations using hr data must be really off. Imo the hr sensor is broken and not a sw issue.

  • People are having this issue wearing super reliable chest straps as well so it must be a software issue.

  • If it was a software problem, then everyone should have it, right? My heart rate recordings are absolutely correct whether I wear a chest strap or rely on the optical sensor.

  • maybe some units are just broken

  • I haven’t had any HR issues either so it does seem odd. If it is a software issue then there must be some other confounding variable(s) that are affecting the HR which would explain why it’s only a problem for some people. Not sure what that variable could be though.

My best guess would still be faulty hardware. Maybe Garmin needs to improve the QC of their manufacturing processes.

  • I support this - also think, maybe some units are broken aka the hardware has defects.

Had the FR955 quite some time now and use it 24/7 on the wrist for the usual tracking. For Walking, Hiking and Commuting with bike to work I use the optical HRM. Never have seen such unusual jumps in HR readings.

For Running and Biking i use a chest strap HRM (Pro or Dual) and with those I also have no problems.

@ Threadstarters: Not everything is a software problem and if other people tell you that they don't have this problem, my best tip would be to contact support.garmin.com directly and insist on a solution as obviously your unit has problems - maybe faulty sensor hardware.
My personal experience with Garmins Support during the guarantee times of their products is really good, for example chest straps were simply replaced when I had problems with.

  • Please read into this subject before presuming something.

The bug can be fixed sometimes by pressing pause and start again. That cannot be explained by a hardware defect.

Also Garmin already acknowledged that it is a software bug and that a fix is on it‘s way but no timeline for that.

Just read the discussion that I have linked and discuss there. It makes no sense to have another thread here.

  • Calm down, please.

It is still true, what I (and not only I) have written here: We also own the FR955. For myself I can say: Hundreds of recorded activities, with optical HRM and with chest strap HRM, never seen those anomalies.

So, regarding the thread opener wants a recall of all FR955, it has to be doubted, that it is a pure software error. If it was, we also should have seen it by now, shouldn’t we?
