PSA: beta 16.09 is out

This update, version 16.09, is a Release Candidate. "Release Candidate" means that this exact software version is planned to “Go Live” as a public update as long as no critical issues are observed. All copies of version 16.09 will be identical, so there are no differences in functionality whether you install version 16.09 as a Public Release Candidate or wait for the update to be a Live public update.

To download this update on the Forerunner 955 Series devices, go to: Main menu > Settings > System > Software Update > Check For Updates

  • Of course, as explained in the reviews quite clearly - I often get access to devices ahead of time like any other media entity under embargo. Same as The Verge, Wired, New York Times, etc... They are media loaner devices and go back to Garmin.

As for new quarterly update firmware, which was the specific item asked/queried about above, it's exceptionally rare that I get sent/notified of those.

  • As a long time viewer on YT and member of the Garmin community, I would still like to thank you Ray for the quality work you have been putting out for so long, all in the interest of informing/educating us community members about software/hardware developments in the field, regardless if do or not get firmware updates ahead of time, which IMHO, as a software reviewer myself with close ties to my work industry, I don't think you get.

Honestly, I don't even think it matters that much if you do get the firmware ahead of time or not. You got it, tested it, reported on it and gave it your personal touch/opinion/etc. Then again, this is just the opinion of an average guy, take it for what it's worth. No disrespect meant to anyone that might disagree with my POV.

  • More important, its probably the feedback you give in your vids that help to make it a better product.

Don't think Garmin is focussing all too much on this forum. Would be nice to have them around more openly and notifying us we are heard and when they forward bugs to the product owner.

  • Not really. It works only for actual activity for me. You can delete all the datafields from the watch and add them again, but after you quit only internal datafields remain and the timer comes instead of CIQ df.

  • Same here. Actually, the gauge when you do the workout is correct but the advertised speed when the intervals are starting are wrong. Really weird bug !

  • When will they release a partial fix? These sources of the notifications are horrible, nothing else fits on the screen.

  • My guess will be either Monday or Thursday this coming week for the first fixes, but it may be the following week, depending on their development cadence.

  • Same here, but not only stryd its all CIQ

  • To be honest, I'd like to have it back (smaller). I.e., it would be nice if it will be possible to set font size in the settings. Somebody likes/want bigger, somebody smaller.

  • When running with Garmin HRM Pro, OHR does not turn off, lights are blinking. Is this normal? However in activity summary it seems HRM Pro is considered including running dynamics.
