Auto FTP detection is still Not working at FR955

Hi there,

I have a FR 955 with FW 15.19 but unfortunately the Auto-Update of the FTP is still not working… Meanwhile it is quite frustrating (want back my 935…).

can anyone help?

And just in case any debugging sessions are necessary:

1. yes

2. yes

3. Germany

thanks for your support !

  • I have the same problem.  Cycling VO2 max is estimated as are 5k, 10k, half marathon, and full marathon running times despite having never recorded a run on this watch.  The times are all wildly optimistic.

FTP however has not been estimated .

  • Do you still have this problem?

There is a Garmin support article which explains the conditions under which the detector generates a new FTP:

    https://support.garmin.com/en-GB/?faq=i96M1HykRy4LgvA6bORZC9

I have deleted a previous record, set my FTP to a low value, and will see if a new one is detected.

  • Do you still have this problem?   I have three problems with FTP:

    - There is no FTP page on the Performance glance so the only way to see FTP is on the list view where the Performance glance is listed

    - I have never had a "New FTP detected" message despite having all the settings enabled

    - If I change the FTP on GCM it doesn't sync with the watch automatically.  I have to do a WiFI sync to push it to the watch and for the value to persist.  If I don't do this the value is ignored and the previous value remains on GCM, Connect and the 955.

It seems that this problem could affect other watches not just the 955 according to Product Support.

If you have any of these problems or others please log them with Product Support as well.

  • Why do you need to use an HR strap and not the optical sensor?

  • It seems that this article

    https://support.garmin.com/en-GB/?faq=i96M1HykRy4LgvA6bORZC9&identifier=777730&tab=topics

    which states

    • Activity must include heart rate data from either a built-in optical heart rate sensor or from a chest strap.

is wrong and that page 31 of the manual is correct

"Before you can get your functional threshold power (FTP) estimate, you must pair a chest heart rate monitor and power meter with your watch"

Automatic detection of FTP only works with a heart rate strap.   When using the optical sensor the 955 will not detect an FTP.

Also even if I do use a HR strap I still have no FTP page on the Performance glance.

And the FTP is still only syncing to GC and GCM via WiFI.

Today I also received a power record notification which didn't sync with GC or GCM.

    So many bugs.
