A joke

After 9 months this watch is in the guiness of bug records. And Garmin went on sleeping...congratulations

Having paid €500 for this toy is truly a scandal.

  • I've been writing about things that don't work since June and nothing has changed. Perhaps it is first to list what works.

  • Hi

We have been working diligently on improvements, and plan to release many fixes with our next sw update. Beta enrollment will be available even sooner, and we will update everybody when it is available.

  • I really hope so because it is not normal that after 9 months of release it is in this condition. hello and good job

  • Hi ,

I hope the following bugfix will be included as well. https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/running-multisport/f/forerunner-955-series/313578/climbing-activities-do-not-remember-difficulty-level-setting-from-last-climb

The thread was locked 2 months ago (so it is no longer possible to add new posts) with the promise of implementing within few days, but hasn't been addressed in any changelog since then.

  • @Garmin-Sierra we will ry to not shoot the messenger. ;)

as much as i find that my 955 does most of the things it needs to do well, i think the general sentiment here are:

    • too many new bugs have been introduced in firmware updates. this is quite surprising to many of us who know how software development should work, at least in theory. occasionally, this can happen, but this seems to be very common for Garmin lately.
    • too many original limitations with the watch since last June still haven't been addressed in spite of promises from Garmin to address them
    • too many inexplicable changes (separating from outright bugs) such as the accent font on the stock watch face now being applied to both hours and minutes. (it's so frustrating every time i see a picture of a 955 from marketing that is not replicable on the watch)
    • so many things that this watch can't do that the Fenix7 can. my big peeve: the useless Solar glance/widget that doesn't numerically tabulate the daily solar insolation. i have been told that it was being looked into, but 9+ months later, it hasn't been addressed.

i do love many things about my 955, but these shortcoming lead many of us to wonder if we would consider another Garmin watch in the future. [this coming from someone who has owned many Garmin watches since 2010]

  • That should have been fixed in 14.13. It looks like Kevin did request for a new thread to be started if you were still experiencing an issue with it. Please let me know if I missed a post, or if I can reach out to you via email to look into it more.

  • Hello, Desperate a little the situation because things as basic as pressing an icon and taking you to the widget are not implemented, let's even the new 265 if you have it

I love my 955 Solar but the truth is that there are things that are not understood by Garmin, I had never had a Garmin with such a level of forgetfulness.

  • Please, please address the issue of the stop button not working while an alert is on the screen. It really impacts on the usability of features such as navigation, when navigational alerts prevent you from pushing stop to pause the activity. The stop/start button should function flawlessly, being a such a basic feature.

    Thanks.

  • Thanks for letting me know , that the "Climbing activities do not remember difficulty level setting from last climb" issue should have been resolved in 14.13. I am still at firmware 13.15, as the newly introduced and re-appeared bugs in later firmwares would bother me much more, than the offered bugfixes.

I was looking at the official 14.13. changelog and it did not seemed to me, that this issue could have been resolved in there, that's why I am addressing it:

    Ver. 14.13 - 01/27/2023
    Improves the incident detection logic.
    Improves the indoor pace calculation.
Improves the alarm and timer organization.
Improves auto pause during ultra run activities.
Improves pairing with a phone to simplify the user input required.
Adds a chart data field option for select data fields.
Adds chart and graph scrolling on select screens.
Adds distance to next fork data field in trail run activities.
Adds support for entering an unspecified gender in the user profile.
Fixes issues with data fields used on watch faces and in activities.
Fixes issues with using a workout during an activity.
    Fixes other minor issues.

However, I will check right after a usable firmware is finally released and I will  be brave enough to update. Thank you!
