Update 14.13 has ruined my new watch

the new update (14.13) for the forerunner 955 has ruined my watch. here are the list of new 'features and bug fixes' that really regret me updating my watch:

1. removing the white background on notifications and replacing it with the harder to read black background

2. terrible battery life (15-20% on one day with just normal usage)

3. slow and unresponsive touch and buttons

4. re-designed the stop watch and timer button with the harder to black background

5. all emoji's removed

6. haptic sometimes works on notifications

I really don't know what it is with this update because no one else has posted about this?! is it an issues with just my watch or anyone else experiencing the same issues.

is there a way to downgrade back to the older update I was on, or can Garmin please fix these issues

let me know in the comments if anyone else is experiencing the same issues

Thanks

  • Yes. But can't blame the people, it's not what Garmin tell them to do. It's just something you learn to do :) One could kind of also expect that Garmin would do something to that, so that it wouldn't happen or would reboot after update itself.

  • Hi Who knows,

Thanks for responding, I am referring to the Garmin Connect App..on my phone. The 955 is stock (No GC IQ Apps or data fields) The stock watch has been fine for me, there is VERY LITTLE I would change about it. The only thing besides the battery life I'd like to change is to be able to remove the analog hands from the stock watch face below. Other than that, the watch was fine right out of the box.:

  • The new stopwatch also drains battery like crazy. I use the stopwatch app to track tasks for work and short workouts, it's now basically unusable because having the stopwatch screen on for a few hours will drain 10+% battery per day.

  • To be fair though, it is quite infuriating how Garmin knows how to screw up at least one feature with every software release.. And how long it takes for them to address it.

For example the navigation bug in this one (not being able to navigate to a saved location). It's a very important feature for me on weekends and trips away and very clear it's a software bug. Easily reproducable, reported by multiple users, etc. But am now in contact with support and so far after a few days am not further then the standard "please restart the watch", "Please update software", "Please update maps".

I am going through it just to keep thing going but I just sent the 3rd mail with the information and have hardly any hopes of a resolution (the previous time it ended in a "Please return the watch and we will send you another one".)

The watch was pretty damn expensive, it's out now for 8 months and still in a state as if it's just released with an initial sw version containing all the initial release bugs.

  • So many loyal Garmin users are so frustrated now. We try to help to get what we have paid for. But as you explain, there is no relevant reaction from Garmin side. It's still a premium sport watch and not a "have fun with bugs"-watch. As a loyal Garmin user it's hard to NOT try other brands after months of frustration.

  • For me everything works just fine after the update, no complaints whatsoever

  • This shows that there are different behaviours in different watches. We can only speculate what are the reasons and try to figure it out by helping Garmin with iur feedback (sending watch data, description of behaviour at watch amd so on). But we are users who want to use the product not SW testers. It's Garmins job to realize a quality standard where everyone has same behaviour on the watch. Do you ever heard of so many different observations about your current phone or TV or software on your PCs?

  • So, have you tried navigating to a saved location for example? Specifically that?

It's good things work fine for you, but that most likely simply means you don't us the features with the common issues. Other users do, or buy the watch with specifically those features in mind (navigating to a saved location is one of those for me).

@MK : I think it simply means those users don't use those features. While some bugs are indeed very user dependent, or happen in strange specific cases, others are easily reproducable by many (or even all) users.

I don't swim for example, maaaaaaaaaaaany distance related swim issues but no problem for me because I don't use it.

Same with the skiing, apparently something wrong with registered time there (not with other watches, just wiht the 955). No issue for me because I don't use it.

All in all there are tons of issues but only a number of those actually affect the specific user due to their usecases.

  • Totally agree with you! Overall there are still too many bugs. Hopefully we will get a strong answer from Garmin team and get suprised soon.

  • Battery life is the best so far after 14.13. Full charge lasts 6 days with ~60min runs every day with HRM sensor, Stryd and phone attached.. I'm really happy.
