Is the 955 THAT buggy?

I know this, like many product forums, will have lots of posts regarding problems with the product. Is the 955 that buggy? I have a 935 and don’t recall any major issues.  But it might be just my use cases to reveal bugs. 

  • I have been using it since June mainly in the running 7 days a week and the problem that bothers me the most is the slowdown of the touchscreen and the need to restart. The other problems highlighted are there but for my use they are not obvious. However, Garmin cannot sell a product with many functions but many of which only work on paper. Many bugs are so obvious that they show total disinterest in solving them and I don't understand why. 

  • Short answer: no. But there are definitely things which could be better on the FR 955, espacially in comparison to the Fenix 7 series and given the point that Garmin speaks of a "premium" GPS watch.

    I had this for few months . Works work so far for tracking sleep , workouts. Touch screen menu does need work .

    It does need more actionable watch faces . Not sure why fenix is better than 955.

  • No, it’s not THAT buggy. I’ve had since a month after launch and had maybe one issue where it froze for a bit after recording an intense ride in 90+ degree weather. Props to it, it eventually rebooted and lost no data. I have zero day-to-day issues with mine. Seriously the worst I have to complain about is if I schedule a cycling event on my Garmin calendar (specifically marked NOT a race) the “have a good race!” morning report version kicks in.

    Only issue I see sometimes is it looses Bluetooth connectivity 

  • Of course the watch is more than usable and there are some things that are really good and that I missed with the 945. At the same time, I need to say that the level of bugs is quite high. I had the 945 for years and never felt the need to even come to this forum, because it just worked. The 955... more than 6 months in... it still feels like a beta product. I don't regret having upgraded, for example the quick GPS lock makes a lot of difference living in a city, but the love story I had with the 945 has not started yet with the 955.

  • Hi Giovanni, I imagine from the name that you are Italian too, I'm still on 945 given the continuous problems of 955, I've had it for more than 2 years and I must say that it has always worked well and many excellent functions have been added for me such as body battery and sleep monitoring, we must also admit that Fenix 7 is light years ahead both in terms of bug resolution and new functions. By now the forerunner series seems to me to have been relegated to GP2 as in the motorcycle world championship, the development of 945 is at a standstill while Fenix 6 continues to evolve, 945lte makes no sense since it is not sold all over the world. Of course, we users can't do anything about this, Garmin has every right to manage its products as it sees fit, I'm just saying that a customer who pays a lot of money would at least have the right to have a defect-free product in exchange, I've never bought an android phone with SW bug, at much lower prices than 955. This is just my thought.

  • Hi Luca, yes I'm Italian, even though I haven't lived in Italy for the past 20 years. I agree with most of what you say and I wonder if something is going on within Garmin. I had a lot of Garmin products over the years, I have the infamous Index S2, a Tacx trainer, HR straps, my wife has a Garmin, my kids have a Garmin. I even gifted a Garmin to my mother. I never really had big issues, and the customer support has always been top notch in all the countries I lived in. The Garmin Connect app has always had periodic bugs, but in 10+ years of being 100% in the Garmin ecosystem, this is the first device that I own that seems so half-baked. I know that the Index S2 has issues, but I knew that before buying it, so I wasn't surprised.

  • Yup! It sux and the only answer everybody is shouting back at me is "RESET".

  • Had mine for 7 months and never reset it. At most done the "hold light button until full power down " trick, especially after every FW update . Generally my watch is stable. What issues are you plagued with?
