Is the 955 THAT buggy?

I know this, like many product forums, will have lots of posts regarding problems with the product. Is the 955 that buggy? I have a 935 and don’t recall any major issues.  But it might be just my use cases to reveal bugs.

  • Not anymore maybe?

I own it since launch and yes, for the first time I felt what other users often complained about... There were quite some issues, not all affected me (due to use case) but they did others.

By now I finally feel the product as it should have been since launch (only the lactate threshold not updating over watch sync is still on my list (and perhaps some map inconsitency has been introduced again).

So it took over half a year but it finally feels like the watch I thought I bought at the start. Still not perfect, but overall solid imo.

  • Just some minor bugs.

Overall, I think the 955 non solar is fine.

  • Yes, i am starting to regret my purchase decision. Even the cheapest Huawei, Xiaomi watches surpass Garmin Forerunner 955 in terms of operating system quality.

    1) GPS acquisation problems. The watch generally (%70 of time) finds the GPS amazingly well but sometimes it just refuses to find a signal. You wait for hours, reset the watch, no luck. You have to connect the watch to Garmin express and add/delete a random map. This is the weirdest bug ever... I tell you, I've never experienced GPS acquisation problems in Huawei, Apple, Xiaomi, Samsung watches i used before.

    2) Body Battery is nothing but a gimmick. It drains so hard. I wake up at %100, in 2 hours i drop to %80 despite feeling fine.

    3) Stress measurement is not that reliable. According to my watch i am always stressed Slight smile

    4) Garmin has a "Jump Rope" app but it is too simple. I want estimated rest time and other statistics for my activity.

    5) Weather information is veeeeeery off.

  • No it's not, the biggest issue is that it diesn't autosync the swimming activities.

So, you can understand that it's ok.

Other "bugs" are the people not able to use it

  • I too am concerned about this. At the moment I am holding off buying a 955 because of the many bugs I see on these forums.

And especially because what matters most to me is the battery issue, and I see a lot of people suffering significant battery drains. My biggest concern is that in smartwatch mode, without notifications, it will last for weeks...

For my part, I will keep reading the forums to see if the situation improves before deciding to buy a 955.

  • way to many, mine had issues from Bluetooth connectivity, freeze ups, reboots (Especially when trying to use gps / maps), battery drains, eventually it died while on my wrist and would not boot back up or charge. sending it to retailer and gonna be asking my money back

  • That gps one is definitely weird and I bet it’s frustrating.

  • I have a garmin edge 530 and the garmin 935. And I’ve definitely had BT weirdness on occasion. For me it’s mostly occurred when I have turned of my iPhone BT then later turned it back on and try to reconnect. Most of the time, I quickly get it sorted out by closing the connect app. Toggle BT. Then opening connect app again.

  • No it's not. Some buttons are mushy like on 945, but will wait until doing RMA so they're would hopefully be updated hardware revision. Software-wise it's just fine.

  • I use it for 1,5 months now and I do not recognize the issues Abraxas is telling. Body battery f.i. drops 34% in half a day, including 2 hours spinning work out. That seams plausible to me. GPS found within 10 sec's. Weather forecast is very accurate. I have standard watch face, updated software and untill now no issues. I see some users with issues in specific settings I do not use, so I do not deny there are some. Only I am not bothered with it.
