Random Freezing

Hello,

I bought the watch 3 days ago and in 3 days I had to do a reset many times. Indeed, without any reason, the screen freezes and it is impossible to refresh it.
This evening I am even in a situation in which the watch refuses to restart and freezes on the start triangle. I think it's a data error coming from the software but how to solve the problem?

  • hi, did you solve it some how? I send watch to Garmin twice and they telling everything is fine.

  • Just curious. Some of us are not encountering the feeze.

    How is your usage habit ? Do you always use the touchscreen in an hour or day ?

    Can you try removing some of the glances ? ie calendar

  • it looks like not a screen freeze(even if looks like), but would say this the whole watch stuck. because they even don't response to factory reset combination on such freeze. I think maybe some kind of dead loop, because batter usage is going super crazy during such freeze.

    A message I sent to Garmin, but for them the it's working fine(I send it 2 times to garmin):

    • For me it's stuck/freezing in cases:
      • During activities(run/bike)
      • When the watch was charging from 220W
      • When the watch was charging/connected to the laptop
      • I wear the watch without interacting with them
      • At night when I slept(2am) and the watch was on my wrist;
      • During factory reset(on the progress indicator)
    • When the watch stuck/freezes:
      • Putting to the charge doesn't update any information on the screen;
      • Pulse Ox sensor also not working(doesn't flash green light)
      • The battery usage is quite high - maybe some computations happening
    • When the watch is stuck/freeze the only way to do something with it is to hold the top-left button(hard reset). It turns off the watch. After that:
      • In 95% of the cases turning on its back (hold top-left button) is not working. Almost always I need to wait for 30-60min to it on back again.
      • The watch doesn't recognise the factory reset combination keys. Just nothing happens(but I'm waiting for a sound to unhold the first button). The factory reset combination works fine when the watch is working(not freezing).

  • I agree on the some kind of dead loop or CPU intensive activity going on with the watch.

    Like I said, you need to experiment with some of the options of the watch.

    Some options or settings may trigger the dead loop.

    By the way, you are not alone.

  • Thanks.

    Do you know if there are any tool using which I can debug Garmin watch and dig to the logs and find the issue?

  • Hello,  for your information.
    I sent twice the watch to the Garmin service.

    Each time they did the same things I did before (Reboot, hard reboot.....)

    The last time I send the watch they replaced it and now it's been 3 months and I'm very happy with this watch.

  • I was lucky enough to have my watch freeze completely after two weeks of 2-3 freezes daily. Removing ConnectIQ stuff, glances, etc., don’t help. It seems to be related to a hardware fault.

    I know well how random and annoying these freezes are. Before sending the watch again, get in contact with Garmin, send them photos and videos, to have a replacement arranged. A tip for now: mine seemed to reset quicker when charged.

  • No idea on the debug mode buddy.

    So some of the guys above think it is HW related which I think too.

    Don't be afraid to return back the watch.

    This is the only way for Garmin to improve on their HW. They need the physical devices to understand what is wrong.
