13.15 general observations

thought i'd start a general discussion thread here (as opposed to bug reports):

quick things i've noticed:

  • new font for glances (smaller? thankfully still readable for these old eyes)
  • the Solar intensity widget looks better with a line plot rather than using bars for every update interval
  • as noted by others, Maps zoom seems to work a little better. a tap to the screen brings up the zoom buttons. from what i understood, the Fenix7/Epix2 can have a double tap to zoom in? that doesn't appear to work yet on the 955
  • it may be my imagination, but the interface feels more fluid again like the original FW. i recall the first update seemed to make things a bit more sluggish. not painfully so, but it seems that things are back to where they were several months ago.
  • as typical, my glances got all sorted in weird order (not a huge deal)
  • the watch reinstalled some previously uninstalled watch faces

what have you all noticed?

  • Just did my first run with the new beta, wanted to check of OHR improved for me but during warmup there was already a difference of about 7-8bpm between strap and OHR (as in 68 vs 75 or so) so decided to go with the strap for this one... doesn't look too promising but will give another try soon.

I like the new zones overview afterwards, more informative. Forgot to wear the stryd so can't compare power... GPS/sattelites seems perfectly fine again (never had an issue with this anyway).

All in all, OHR is still disappointing but will give it another chance but other than that... all fine it seems!

  • I reported a bug regarding no GO option by long pressing Start  after selecting a location. Other users reported that GO option is available via Navigate->Use Map procedure, so Garmin-Kevin marked the report as completed.

I have a map screen within Run/Bike/Walk activities. after entering Run, scrolling to map screen, I can touch map screen to select a location, but I can't get GO option by long pressing Start button. That's the issue I am reporting @Garmin-Kevin.

  • That's not how you do it. You long press UP, select Navigate, then Use Map. That's the map you can get a GO option from.

The map screen in an activity doesn't handle navigation itself. You have to initiate Navigation using the method above.

  • Respiration rate has now disappeared within a workout.

  • Must say OHR seemed a bit flakey today during my Easy run with some unusual jumps of 4/5 BPM...

I'd found the 955 to be very reliable for steady runs, at least as long as I use a nylon strap that hugs the wrist and that allows for a higher placement where there's more flesh. I hope Garmin haven't messed something up with the OHR as they've been known to do in the past !

Other than that, power from the wrist and GAP looked OK. I had a strong headwind on the way out and the power was much higher thatn on the way back. Guess a wind sensor is not needed after all and I don't think Garmin use an internet wind factor anymore like in the old CIQ field, at least I can't see an option for that.

Now they need to come up with a "power ecosystem" like Stryd (CP calculation at least) so people can actually use it for a meaningful purpose.

  • If you press UP, then select pan/zoom, select a location, long press Start, GO option will show too.

  • finally got my first run in with 13.15 this morning. everything seemed just fine, tracking was spot on from prior runs on same route, no graphical glitches (yay!), and the changes to the end of the run report are overall pretty nice. i'm new to the running power thing, but it seemed to work properly and display info during the run and afterward.

overall, i finally feel this watch is what it was promised to be upon release. i know some people have had some battery drain issues, but for me, the bugs that bothered me have now been fixed and i thankfully haven't (yet) seen any new ones introduced with this new firmware.

i did see some small "issue" with the summary of HR after the run. the percentage for my z4 got clipped due to the round screen. not a big deal to me.

i also didn't try out the GPS hotkey thing, but i trust 's test  to think it will work when i use it next time riding or hiking.

overall, the watch seems to be working well. while new features are nice (Running Power), it's just nice that the bugs that were there for the first 5 months are mostly resolved now. fingers crossed...

  • Hello,

is there any information regarding the date of releasing the firmware 13.15 to all users?

  • No, but if you want it, just enroll to beta and upgrade and then unroll your enrollment if you don't want next beta to surprise you.

  • Map zoom/pan during activity with touch works when touch is enabled as global only.

So it is not possible to enable touch for particular activity using map.
