Touch screen navigation improvement

Coming from oryginal Epix (those with rectangular screen) with touchscreen. Map browsing was very good on it. When touch screen arrived on FR955 i though "finaly!".

Unfortunetly there is still much to improvment.

Now, to use pan and zoom, we have to use multiple buttons taps to activate, when using livetrack or power meters. To activate pan/zoom on map you have to hold up button and then select pan/zoom option which, depending on situation, in diffirent spots of the menu. When you simply use a run/hike etc profile it will be the first. But when you have power meter (bike profile) attached on using livetrack option, you have to click several times to go to pan/zoom option.

See screens

Two solutions:

Possibility to activate touch screen pan/zoom feature by DOUBLE tap on the screen like on Epix (it was working fine! why it was removed?)

Make pan/zoom option appear ALWAYS on the top.

And in that moment, managing map is a pain in the ass :/

  • To be fair, not everything is broken on FR 955. One thing is the Instant keyboard - it just works fine.

I guess you might have it disabled in Garmin Connect Mobile? (Menu -> Settings -> Instant Keyboard)

And maybe in addition you need to grant some permissions? I am not sure, I don't remember what it asked when I was installing it some months ago.

  • Absolutely agree!!

Same thing on every forerunner I owned. Somehow garmin manages to always start from scratch. As if the forerunner 9x5 is the ugly Fenix brother, that doesn't deserve any love...

  • Btw, I see my thread regarding the inconsistent zoom control is transferred to this topic:

    https://forums.garmin.com/beta-program/forerunner-955-series/public-beta-bug-reports/i/bug-reports---beta-12-20/touch-zoom-working-inconsistently

But I don't really actually see it mentioned in here? That's a good way to get things missed... So just in case, as it still is not improved, I want to explicitly mention it here again

Using the touchscreen interface to zoom in (touch the onscreen +) works fine and as expected

Using the touchscreen interface to zoom out (touch the onscreen -) works hardly at all. At times it registers it as a zoom out, but 9 out of 10 times it brings the cursor to that spot and doesn't work at all. The button works, but the onscreen - doesn't seem to register at all.

  • In the Fenix 7 if the touchscreen is active the pan/zoom is enabled by touching the map screen (single or double tap, not sure).
I hope the same works for the 955, if not they need to include this in the coming updates.

  • All,

Please see our recently released beta software for a fix addressing this report. If you prefer to not install this beta software, we hope to be rolling out a public software update soon, though I do not have a timeline for this release. If you are still seeing this issue after installing the beta software, please contribute your observations in the appropriate beta bug reports section of the beta forums for your specific device.

Enrolling in Garmin Beta Software Program

  • All,

We have released a fix in the latest (non-beta) software release that should resolve the report for most users experiencing these symptoms.  The software release should continue rolling out to all users in the coming days.  If you are still experiencing symptoms like the original report here, please start a new thread in the main forum.
