Touch screen navigation improvement

Coming from oryginal Epix (those with rectangular screen) with touchscreen. Map browsing was very good on it. When touch screen arrived on FR955 i though "finaly!".

Unfortunetly there is still much to improvment.

Now, to use pan and zoom, we have to use multiple buttons taps to activate, when using livetrack or power meters. To activate pan/zoom on map you have to hold up button and then select pan/zoom option which, depending on situation, in diffirent spots of the menu. When you simply use a run/hike etc profile it will be the first. But when you have power meter (bike profile) attached on using livetrack option, you have to click several times to go to pan/zoom option.

See screens

Two solutions:

Possibility to activate touch screen pan/zoom feature by DOUBLE tap on the screen like on Epix (it was working fine! why it was removed?)

Make pan/zoom option appear ALWAYS on the top.

And in that moment, managing map is a pain in the ass :/

  • I agree! so much promises, and we get such clumsy touch controls. While running or swimming, so difficult to just zoom in or out to get some perspective. Buttons and menus one after the other, just to do what the other watches do so easily. Not fair...

  • Hello all,

We have other reports of this and are actively investigating.  When we know more or have any updates to share, I'll be posting to this thread.  Thank you in advance for your patience with us while we conduct this investigation.

  • Investigation? do you try your watches???? get a 955, go out, start a run, scroll down the faces until the map, try to zoom out to see anything outside the screen range, or zoom in to see a detail... good luck, and count the clicks!

while you are, you can try:

-to zoom in the climb graph to see where is the next flat to have a breath,

-fast save your position from any screen.

-jump on a pool and try to count your laps

    - any of this forum other reported aberrations...

Wear a fenix on the other wrist, upssss it works and the interface is friendly! wear a 945, the swim lap count is good...

Is not that a rip off???? you buy the touch screen upgrade, it doesn't work, and you have to click even more buttons???

  • Yeah, it's really pretty insane how the implementation on this FR955 is so much different compared to fenix 7 and epix 2... Makes no sense at all and experience is way worse as well.

    Way to go Garmin

  • It's honestly massively putting me off getting one, which sucks as it's got so much going for it but I would constantly feel like it's underachieving until enough software updates are released.

  • Can imagine...

Personally I still do like it overall, also because it's good enough for what I do with it most of the time but at the same time it's quite disappointing to have such a buggy device after all these months and for the serious amount of money that it costs.

Also because I just can't understand the decisions made here (and the what seems lack of interest from garmin for this device, even though I'm happy at least a representative is in here trying to guide info).

  • me too. overall, i like the watch overall, but the level of bugs on this watch and the 945LTE really leave me disappointed that Garmin hasn't taken enough care of making sure their flagship Forerunner's don't perform their basic functions properly.

to me, it's very surprising that things like double tap to zoom and useful Solar Intensity widget on the Epix2/Fenix7 weren't working on the 955 from day one. i know they have different development teams, but these are some core/basic features that should work similarly.

  • Absolutely agree.

There are some issues (very annoying), introduced on FR945 LTE, copied over to FR955 and never fixed on either model. Very sad, realizing the fact, that FR945 LTE was introduced in August 2021, which was more than 13 months ago! I used to be a a FR945 LTE user and switched to FR955. I lost quite big amount of money, but accepted it with a hope, that the flagship model would be treated accordingly. Imagine my frustration.

Another sad thing is breaking some of the already working features in the latest firmwares 12.20 RC and 12.23.

  • Actualy you can save your position from any screen, by making shortcut to a button. I have that on FR945 for years and it is working on FR955.

But the quality of touch implementation is poor in Fr955. It looks like it is done by inferior garmin team. Maybe outsourcing to some external team.

I dont know if it was before 12.23 but i checked that you can use keyboard from phone when searching an adress in FR955 or when naming your sensor. It is cool feature :)

  • Yeah, cool feature, that doesn't work LOL. I get the prompt, but typing does nothing.

Don't care the reasons, this is fake advertisement. How many functions described in the manual, don't work as advertised. They should get some trouble for their lack of professionalism,
